New consumer research from the International Food Information Council (IFIC) shows just over half of Americans believe carbohydrate-rich foods can be part of a healthy diet… which means there’s still a lot of confusion (and a lot of unnecessary fear) around carbs.

Talk about stepping out of your comfort zone! This fall I had the extraordinary pleasure of modeling for where I’ve been a member for years.

I rent for my on air appearances and speaking engagements and got an invite to a member tennis event (there’s a story there that includes me missing the ball multiple times) where I met members of the RTR team.

And the rest is history.

For many adults, staying under 2,300 mg of sodium perday supports heart, gut and whole body health, while those with high blood pressure or kidney disease benefit from aiming closer to 1,500 mg of sodium per day.

Small swaps matter: choose fresh foods, rinse canned beans and veggies, and season with herbs, citrus, or spices instead of extra salt. Look for packages items that are low sodium. Your heart will thank you. ❤️

Whether you make it at home, use a frozen option, or order a plain slice from your favorite local spot, here’ what to note:

#1 is serving up cheese, which is fantastic
#2, added a little bit of protein and some veggies
Both options could be a choice for breakfast lunch or dinner.

Feeling stressed out about sodium when ordering out?

Starting with a roadmap, makes it easier and can take some of the stress out of the interaction.

If you are thinking about high blood pressure or reducing sodium, here are 3 things to consider:

1) Choose meals rich in potassium & magnesium (think leafy greens, beans, fish).
2) * if you have the option in the notes when ordering ask the kitchen to leave the finishing salt out.
3) Order sauce on the side and then YOU decide how much you want to use.
