We have entered into the season of letting go. In the Autumn we see the heat and yang nature of the summer begin to fade and morph into the slower, cooler, more yin time of the year. As we sit here, in the in-between state, the rhythms of nature are clear.
🍁
Leaves fall, the harvest time is over, and the fruits that have not been picked drop to the ground and rot. We are moving toward winter dormancy. This is the time of grief. If we watch we can see these rhythms mirrored in our own bodies
🍂
The organs associated with the Fall are the Lung and Large Intestine, both of which work tirelessly at letting go. The lungs release through the exhale tens of thousands of times every day and the Large Intestine discharges, for most, daily.
🫁
During this time the lungs and large intestine are more vulnerable to dis-ease. You can support your own Lung and Large Intestine organs through diet, movement practices and herbal support. Consider adding moistening foods such as pear, lotus root, mushrooms and honey to your recipes. Be sure to avoid cold, raw foods that are challenging for the body to break down. Move the body gently and focus on opening the space of the chest and lung with large, sweeping circles to open the pectoral region and encourage deep, nourishing breath.

If you haven’t been in for a while, this is the perfect time of year for a seasonal acupuncture tune up! I’ve stocked up on a couple of my go-to herbal medicine preparations to keep you healthy in the dreaded cold and flu season (parents… I see you!), just ask when you’re in. I’d love to see you soon.
🍃
Stay warm, nourished and well!
