Mary Anne Cohen, LCSW
Director – The New York Center for Eating Disorders
Presents a new webinar:
OZEMPIC: WHAT PSYCHOTHERAPISTS, NUTRITIONISTS,
HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS AND THE EATING DISORDER COMMUNITY NEEDS TO KNOW
Ozempic and other weight loss drugs are not going away anytime soon. One in eight Americans are on or have tried these drugs. As clinicians we need to help our patients sort out the hype from the help.
This webinar takes a deep dive into the controversy surrounding Ozempic and other weight loss drugs to help clinicians negotiate this new terrain with their patients. Using case examples from my practice, I explore the pros, the cons, and the key psychological dimensions of these medications. My workshop is the first to highlight Ozempic through a psychological lens.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
1) Understand how the media has fueled perpetual body dissatisfaction and promoted the “value” of intentional weight loss
2) Understand the controversial nature of weight loss medications
3) Determine how to make an individualized, comprehensive assessment for each patient
4) How to prepare patients for the emotions that may arise when they are not using food to self-medicate
5) Recognize how the movements of body positivity, HAES (Health at Every Size), fat activism may be integrated with Ozempic
