A lot of people come into my clinic and ask me,
“Hey Doc, I suddenly have this hard, painful lump sticking out on my lower leg. Is it a blood clot?”
The truth is, many people are actually dealing with superficial phlebitis, which is inflammation of a surface vein.
Basically, a vein close to the surface of the skin becomes irritated, swollen, and painful due to inflammation.
It’s not as serious as a deep vein thrombosis (DVT), but it can still be quite uncomfortable and disruptive. Common symptoms include:
Redness, warmth, and tenderness
Localized swelling
Pain that makes walking uncomfortable
A vein that feels hard and looks like a raised rope under the skin
The smart way to manage it includes:
Applying a cold compress
Elevating the leg
Supporting healthy circulation
Avoiding prolonged standing
Doing light, gentle walking
Many people also use a soothing spray to help reduce the burning and stinging sensations. I often recommend GFOUK® VascuCare Spray to my patients for home use. I’ve received a lot of positive feedback from people using it—it helps ease discomfort and pain, absorbs quickly, and is very easy to apply.
Take care of your veins, and they’ll take care of you—keeping your legs feeling strong and comfortable.
