Sudden knee pain without a fall or clear injury can be confusing.
One possible cause is a Subchondral Insufficiency Fracture - a small fracture in the bone just beneath the cartilage surface of the knee.
It often occurs in patients over 50 or in those with decreased bone density.
Early X-rays may appear normal, which is why an MRI is often needed for diagnosis.
Symptoms typically include:
β’ Sudden, sharp knee pain
β’ Pain with weight bearing
β’ Swelling
β’ Difficulty walking
At Advanced Orthopedics & Joint Preservation, early diagnosis allows us to focus on joint-preserving treatment and prevent long-term damage.
