Hi π This is a little bit of a rant, so feel free to skip ahead and read my reflections from 2025, if you're in the mood. https://docs.google.com/document/d/18gMO7684YJc8mkSz6uoq82vTC1FuirekBLfWYdtI59U/edit?usp=sharing
The last couple days as we moved through this "new year" celebration and time marking, I noticed myself feeling resistant and also a little anxious about this "holiday."
I remember all the way back to when I was 18, out til midnight, trying to muster the energy to meet the expectations of a New Years Eve night and thinking,
"Nah, I'd rather be home in bed."
Today, as I moved through the misty grey day, I realized that there's nothing about nature right now that screams *new.*
In fact, everyone is still neatly tucked underground resting and nourishing themselves.
This is exactly what I want to be doing too. Especially after the busyness of the holidays.
I feel the pull of society to plan and set into motion a "new start," "intentions," "resolutions." And, truly, I do have some fun ideas brewing in my heart. But THIS is not the time for growing fruit. This is the time for nourishing the soil.
So I'm practicing an anti-new year (just to find some balance). A cherishing of all that's past and present. A checking in with myself in THIS moment. Don't get me wrong, I'm writing down my ideas and dreams that come flowing through the full moon. I'm just not pressuring myself to ACT on them RIGHT NOW.
I hope that, if you're feeling a little like I do, this gives you permission to set aside the to-do's and "future must be now" vibes, and embrace this moment: the end of the exhale of our cycle around the sun.
Because there's still a little air left at the bottom here that needs to be cleared out before we can take a full breath in.
I think I'll be ready to step into the new year right about Marchβ
οΈI'll be sure to wish you a happy new year then π
For now, I hope you have a lovely, wintery rest. Nestled in with Family and Friends (of all sizes and species).
This little video is one that my daughter and I made after gifting some snow and nature art to one of our tree friends. I hope you enjoy ππ
