I wanted to take a second to share some thoughts...

This has been an incredibly difficult time for so many of us... from losing loved ones, to losing jobs/income, to losing a sense of self where our daily habits and routines have been extremely altered.

After being out of work for over two weeks, I can honestly say that this process has been much more difficult than I initially thought. I have had a hard time staying motivated on a day-to-day basis and have definitely lost my sense of time as a whole.

Thankfully my wife, has been able to continue her work. She has been my primary source of motivation to get up and get to our workouts on a daily basis. We truly are trying to use this time to better ourselves as best as we possibly can.

In addition to our workouts, we have been supplementing with Thrive products including the patches you on our arms. Yes, they are a product sold through an MLM and yes, it is something that seems very gimmicky, however I will say it has helped.

I am someone who is a skeptic by nature, but also someone who wants to give everyone or everything a shot before passing judgment.

I believe the term MLM gives off a negative connotation in itself before even hearing what types of products they are offering. I believe the way direct sales have infiltrated our daily lives can be very annoying at times. However, I also believe that there are a lot of companies out there with good products that just so happen to offer their products via direct sales.

So when my wife asked me to try these products I did not hesitate to accept that offer. I knew during this time that it would be difficult to stay upbeat, motivated, and generally happy and if this was something that was able to help and able to help in a very simple way, then why wouldn't I at least try.

I can honestly say that they have helped. Simple as that... my workouts have felt great, I haven't needed coffee or pre-workout and my mood has been better.

If you want more information please let me know and if you don't, no hard feelings at all.

I hope you are all hanging in there as best as you possibly can! Looking forward to working with you guys soon!

The Landmine is your Shoulder's Friend

This is one of the first tools I go to when reintroducing overhead motions to patients/clients who have previously had shoulder pain when going overhead.

The arc of the bar path is incredibly friendly and allows for a very smooth transition through the movement.

We can add or choose not to add forward torso lean (either from standing or kneeling positions) to achieve increased shoulder flexion in the finishing position. This can be very easily manipulated to accommodate each individual.

There also is a good stability requirement at the top of the movement due to the freedom of the bar to move side-to-side as well.

Let me know your thoughts on landmine presses below!

I Love This Job

Sometimes we need manipulation. We did after all train ourselves for 4 years to learn how to use our hands to help people.

As much as I am a huge proponent for movement-based therapy, this does not mean I neglect soft tissue work or spinal manipulation. There are times and places for everything.

Thank you for the kind words !

Our ability to move is, and should be, as unique as each of us are...

We all adapt slightly different strategies to perform a given movement. While for many of us the differences may be slight, there are those that must go outside of the norm to be most effective.

This is why understanding how to effectively cue and coach a person is so paramount to effective rehab or training. If you cannot identify why someone is moving a certain way, it becomes incredibly difficult to make a positive change with that individual.

We can accept that our foundation for movement should be similar but our actual strategy to complete the movement may differ.

What is the magic number??

The answer, as it almost always is, is IT DEPENDS.

There is no magic number... each person who walks in the door is a unique person in a unique situation. We need to treat them in this manner.

However, I will this about how often you SHOULD NOT be adjusted, multiple times per week, week after week, with NO END in sight.

I cannot think of many, if any situations, where this is appropriate.

If you disagree or have questions, please feel free to comment below. I am always open to dialogue and hearing other opinions.

This is Bill

Bill has scoliosis

Bill tends to have a lot of pain

Bill was told he needs to stretch a lot

Bill also was told he needs adjustments all the time

Bill was sick of not seeing progress

Bill learned how to exercise to strengthen the areas he needed to

Bill worked on his ability to move well

Bill stopped stretching as much

Bill did not need to be adjusted as often

Bill is now happier πŸ€—

Bill is still a skeleton 🀣🀣🀣

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BE ADJUSTED πŸ€”

This is one if the most common questions I get from both new and existing patients.

The recommendations they have received in the past have ranged all the way from 3+ times per week to whenever they feel it is necessary?

So what is the right answer?

I would love to hear your thoughts... I will post mine tomorrow!

What is Chiropractic Care?

It is MORE than spinal manipulation.

It is MORE than a generalized treatment.

It is MORE than 5 minute visit.
..

It is NOT trying to create perfect "alignment"

It is NOT something you need weekly for the rest of your life.

It is NOT having the same treatment over and over and over again.

What differentiates Rehab from Training??

When looking at it from the outside, it should not appear that different. We must take care to monitor intensity and volume to a much higher degree when in a rehabilitative phase, however this does not mean we need to COMPLETELY AVOID certain movements or weight beyond the almost-no-resistance bands.

Rehab can occur both in the presence of and absence of pain. Our goals are to ensure that each individual can return to sport/life/activity with greatly reduced risk of injury.

This means movement corrections. This means strengthening. This means increasing or stabilizing ranges of motion.

This also means our rehab should, and often will, look like traditional resistance training. Your banded shoulder rotations and passive pec stretches are only going to get you so far.

dropping all greats if research on his page.

Exercise is NOT bad for people with arthritis. In fact, it is often the opposite.

There is a whole lot of bad information out there about what we should and should not be doing when we are in pain or injured. Unfortunately the information is often stated by people have literally no idea. They would rather have you rest and take a pill for everything.

Find someone who can give you some truths. Find someone who actually knows what is going to be best for you now and in the future.

πŸ’£πŸ’₯ Pain is Dynamic

Are you someone who has back pain, neck pain, or pain anywhere that tends to come and go? Massage helps temporarily, joint manipulation gives relief for a few days or weeks, or stretching helps, but the pain always comes back?

First step is to identify what things might be triggering your pain. Is there a certain lift in the gym that is aggravating. Does sitting for long periods of time bother you. Does lack of sleep or poor diet make things worse?

It is always important to assess and correct as many of the underlying issues as possible and in most situations it is rarely as simple as one thing when pain has been present for long periods of time.
