April is Alcohol Awareness Month

Alcohol use can impact mental health, physical health, relationships, and daily functioning more than many people realize. This month is an opportunity to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and support those who may be struggling.

Understanding the risks:
Excessive alcohol use can contribute to anxiety, depression, sleep disruption, and difficulty coping with stress. Over time, it may also affect memory, decision-making, and overall well-being.

Promoting healthy habits:
• Set personal limits and be mindful of consumption
• Explore alternative ways to manage stress (exercise, therapy, relaxation techniques)
• Prioritize sleep, nutrition, and self-care
• Take breaks from alcohol when needed

How to offer support:
• Approach conversations with empathy, not judgment
• Listen without trying to “fix” everything
• Encourage professional support when appropriate
• Remind others they are not alone

If you or someone you know may be struggling, support is available. Reaching out is a strong and important first step.

🌈 Neurodiversity Week | Celebrating Different Minds 🧠

This week, we recognize and celebrate the beauty of neurodiversity, the idea that brains work in many different ways, and that those differences are not deficits, they are part of what makes us human.

Neurodivergent individuals (including those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and more) bring unique strengths, perspectives, and creativity to our world. 💡

At Priority Psychiatric Services, we believe:
✨ Different does not mean less
✨ Support should be individualized
✨ Every brain deserves understanding, not judgment

Let’s continue to:
✔️ Listen with empathy
✔️ Reduce stigma
✔️ Create spaces where everyone can thrive

Today is a reminder of the power of kindness.

The phrase “Good Samaritan” comes from a story about helping someone in need — even when it may be inconvenient or when others choose not to help.

Acts of kindness can be simple:
• Helping a neighbor
• Checking in on someone who may be struggling
• Offering encouragement
• Volunteering or supporting someone in need

Research shows that helping others can also improve our own mental health, increasing feelings of connection, purpose, and wellbeing.

❤️ Today we invite you to participate:

Share a story of kindness you have experienced or witnessed.

It could be something small or something life-changing.

Your story may inspire someone else to do something kind today.

February is American Heart Month, a time to focus on cardiovascular health and the small, consistent habits that protect it.
Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in the United States—but many risk factors are manageable with awareness and proactive care.
Here are a few simple ways to support your heart:
❤️ Move your body most days of the week
❤️ Choose heart-healthy foods (fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains)
❤️ Monitor blood pressure and cholesterol
❤️ Manage stress in healthy ways
❤️ Prioritize sleep
Your heart works for you every second of every day. Taking care of it isn’t about perfection—it’s about steady, sustainable choices.
If stress, anxiety, or burnout are affecting your physical health, don’t ignore it. Mental and physical health are deeply connected.
This month, choose one small change that supports your heart—and build from there. 💗

National School Counselors Week

This week, we celebrate the school counselors who show up every day for students academically, emotionally, and mentally. 💙

School counselors are often the first safe space a child finds. They listen, advocate, problem-solve, and support students through stress, anxiety, family challenges, and big life transitions, often behind the scenes and without enough recognition.

To all school counselors: thank you for your compassion, your patience, and your unwavering commitment to student well-being. Your work truly changes lives.

💙 With gratitude,
Priority Psychiatric Services
