April is Alcohol Awareness Month
Alcohol use can impact mental health, physical health, relationships, and daily functioning more than many people realize. This month is an opportunity to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and support those who may be struggling.
Understanding the risks:
Excessive alcohol use can contribute to anxiety, depression, sleep disruption, and difficulty coping with stress. Over time, it may also affect memory, decision-making, and overall well-being.
Promoting healthy habits:
• Set personal limits and be mindful of consumption
• Explore alternative ways to manage stress (exercise, therapy, relaxation techniques)
• Prioritize sleep, nutrition, and self-care
• Take breaks from alcohol when needed
How to offer support:
• Approach conversations with empathy, not judgment
• Listen without trying to “fix” everything
• Encourage professional support when appropriate
• Remind others they are not alone
If you or someone you know may be struggling, support is available. Reaching out is a strong and important first step.
