Spurgeon Funeral Home

Spurgeon Funeral Home Spurgeon Funeral Home has been serving Jackson & surrounding countines since 1913 — Sharing memories to help, heal, and honor. Family first. Traditon honored. H.

Community served. Spurgeon Funeral Home, was founded in Kurtz, Indiana, by the late T.A. Spurgeon almost 125 years ago. Spurgeon, his wife, and both of his sons, H. Jack and Emrole, were licensed embalmers. In 1944, the firm moved to West Commerce Street in Brownstown. The business then expanded in 1956 and H. Jack and his wife Margaret built the present facility on East Commerce Street in Brownstown. Jack Spurgeon operated the business after his father died in 1928. He and his wife Margaret then operated the firm until his death in 1977. Mrs. Spurgeon, along with their sons, Larry R. and Jack D., ran the business until her death in 1994. In 2021, the Spurgeon Family transitioned ownership to Luke & Caitlin Nolting, both lifelong residents of Jackson County. We are proud of our family’s long tradition of funeral service. We have served several generations of our friends and neighbors. This fact demonstrates our commitment to you and the entire community -- a long-lasting dedication to serving others in the best and worst of times one can know. To us, personal service is important whether it is before a loss, during the arrangements for a loss, or after a loss.

On this Good Friday, we remember the quiet weight of the cross—and the love that chose it.

“It is finished.” — John 19:30

In those words, we are reminded that even in life’s darkest moments, God’s plan is still unfolding. Grief is real, loss is heavy, but hope was secured on this day.

As we walk alongside families in their hardest seasons, we hold close the promise that this is not the end of the story.

A day of sorrow… but not without hope.
