Today is Rescue Cat Day!

Oona, our little rescue, showed up on our porch one day and decided we were her people. She adopted us before we even realized she had chosen us to be part of her family.

Watching her adjust to living indoors is what inspired my children’s book. She was nervous and skittish, and sometimes she still is. The way she started her life shaped her, but there’s something beautiful about seeing how resilient she is and how she keeps trying every day.

Oona’s journey has changed her life, and it’s now reaching other children too. I’ve even learned that social work professors are using my book to teach their students how to approach difficult topics with gentleness, compassion, and hope, in age-appropriate ways.

It makes me happy to see her story helping others, and I hope it reaches whoever needs it.

The real life Oona Luna Petunia has found her brave! If she can do it, so can you!

Oona was a feral kitten who chose our house as her home. Before we decided to adopt her, we realized she had adopted us long before.

Watching her find her way to safety, regulation, and confidence inspired me to write a children’s book to help children cope with feelings of worry, overwhelm, social anxiety, insecurity, fear, dysregulation, and everything in between.

Oona Luna Petunia Finds Her Brave helps children learn mindfulness, grounding, visualization, positive self-talk, confidence, positive self-talk, self-trust, and self-regulation.

This book is especially helpful for neurodivergent children and for parents who want to help their children cope with difficult emotions and build skills for life.

Hope you like it!

Available on Amazon in English and Spanish.

It is with great joy that I share my new book with everyone ❤️ By the Things We Love is a gentle reminder that the goodness inside us is always there - quiet, warm, and waiting to be seen. Through soft storytelling and tender illustrations, this picture book invites children to slow down, notice their feelings, and reconnect with the small, beautiful things that live in their own hearts and in the hearts of others.

As Maya explores her community with curiosity, she discovers that people carry love, memories, and kindness inside them - even when the world feels busy, loud, or divided. Her simple question, “¿Qué es lo que amas?” / “What do you love?” opens hearts, strengthens connections, and helps children understand the shared humanity beneath all of our differences.

Perfect for families, classrooms, and therapeutic settings, By the Things We Love supports Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) by nurturing empathy, compassion, mindfulness, and emotional awareness. It encourages kids to look for what unites us, what makes us feel safe and understood, and what helps us remember who we truly are.

A new year carries momentum - and momentum is powerful.

I like to think of this moment as a blank canvas. Not in a vague, wishful way, but in a real one. We don’t control everything that will happen, but we do have a say in what we create, what we commit to, and how boldly we move forward.

We are more capable than we give ourselves credit for.
We are the architects of our own future - one decision, one choice, one step at a time.

If this year is calling you to imagine differently, take it.
If it’s asking you to act, create, or move forward - listen.

Use the momentum.
Paint it the way you want.
Take the first step.

Let’s create what’s next.

January 1st, 2026.
A new year.

Not because everything suddenly changes today.
But because this moment invites us to pause.

To breathe. To notice. To reflect.
To imagine what might want to shift.
To sense what wants to move next.

Any day can be a beginning.
Any moment can be the one.

And still…
there’s something about starting together.
About shared intention.
About saying, “Maybe now.”
About feeling ready to take a step.

If today gives you clarity, hope, or momentum—take it.
Hold it gently.
Let it guide one small, honest choice.

That’s how change begins.
Quietly. From the inside.

That’s enough.
It always is.

Here’s something no one tells you:
Being capable doesn’t mean you should carry everything.
If you’re exhausted, it’s not a failure of discipline.
It’s a signal that something is misaligned.
Pay attention to that.
Happy Sunday!

What actually helps (instead of toxic positivity):

🌿 Validation
Seeing and acknowledging someone’s real emotions.

🌧️ Emotional attunement
Meeting them where they are emotionally.

💛 Compassionate support
Warmth without forcing “good vibes.”

🌙 Holding space
Being present without fixing or judging.

🫂 Empathic presence
Showing up in a grounded, safe way.

🏷️ Non-judgmental curiosity
“Tell me what this has been like for you.”

🌾 Emotional realism
Honoring that hard feelings are part of life.

🌬️ Co-regulation
Your calm helps their nervous system settle.

🌑 Trauma-informed support
Understanding feelings as signals, not “drama.”

Some kids don’t run into parties, join groups right away, or jump in to try new things - they hide behind you, tuck their chin, or shut down.
And every parent just wants to help… to make them feel safe, to give them the tools they need to get through hard moments without pushing too hard.

🌙✨ Meet Oona Luna Petunia ✨🌙
A shy, fluffy kitten who hides and curls… until a noisy party in her own house pushes her to take one tiny brave step to overcome anxiety and overstimulation.

Oona Luna Petunia Finds Her Brave is a gentle, heartwarming picture book for kids who get overwhelmed in new places or around new faces. Perfect for shy, sensitive, or slow-to-warm children - and for the grown-ups who love them.

Inside the story you’ll find:
💛 Belly breaths
💛 Sensory grounding
💛 Playful self-talk (aka The Oona Code)
Simple tools kids can use at school, parties, family gatherings, or any moment that feels “too much.”

Beautiful for:
🐾 Social anxiety & sensory overload
🐾 Neurodivergent or sensitive kiddos
🐾 Parents, therapists & teachers who want SEL tools
🐾 Families practicing gentle, mindful connection

Oona doesn’t become the queen of the party - but she does take one brave pawstep forward. And sometimes, that’s more than enough. 💫

Available through Amazon in English & Spanish.
Perfect for ages 3+ (and older children who need gentle support).
❤️🐱✨
