Born August 26, 1958, in Memphis, Tennessee, James’ life was a testament to his unwavering devotion to family, service, and the many friendships he cherished throughout his life.

James proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring as a Boatswain’s Mate First Class. His military service reflected his strong work ethic, leadership, and commitment to others, qualities that remained evident throughout his life.

Following his naval career, James worked at Precision Coils as a special parts maker, where he was respected for his craftsmanship, reliability, and willingness to help those around him. His warm personality and sense of humor made a lasting impression on coworkers and friends alike.

Family meant everything to James. He loved family trips to the mountains, time spent with his brother, and the special tradition of Brother’s Day that created lifelong memories. He also shared a deep bond with his best friend, Russell Yates, whose friendship meant a great deal to him.

A proud Tennessee Titans fan, James enjoyed music, hunting, fishing, and spending time out on his boat, along with gardening and caring for animals. These passions reflected his love for the outdoors and the simple joys of life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Christine Vandiver; sons Jason Daniel Vandiver of Somerville, Tennessee, and Scott Mogilefski of Orangeville, Utah; daughters Jamie R. Byrum (Samuel) and Jessica L. James Roger Stoots

James Roger Stoots, age 78, passed away in Brownsville, TN on February 3, 2026. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home with Bro. Augie Feldman officiating. Burial will follow at the Brownsville Memorial Gardens in Brownsville, TN. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.

James was one of the hardest workers, if not the hardest worker any of us ever knew. If he wasn’t spending his days at Haywood Company, he was staying busy doing what he loved most: hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, working on vehicles, building things with his hands, or working in the yard. He found peace in the simple things, especially sitting back and listening to classic country music, with Johnny Cash being one of his favorites. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, with East TN and Chicago holding special places in his heart. James loved to joke and laugh, though he could be serious when the moment called for it. He proudly loved America and strongly believed in the Second Amendment. He carried a tough-love attitude with most, but his heart was soft when it came to his grandchildren. He would do absolutely anything for his family and closest friends.

He is survived by his wife, Billie Campbell Stoots of Brownsville, TN; son, Jimmy Stoots (Brenda) of Brownsville, TN; daughter, Mindi Case of Jackson, TN; brother, Larry Stoots; sisters, Margaret Reasons and Vicky Stoots; and three grandchildren, Hannah Stoots, Zachary Stoots and Vivian Hatcher.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Roger Delbert and Edith Ferguson Stoots; his first wife, the mother of his children, Margie Stoots; daughter, Kim Stoots; brothers Robert Stoots and Harvey Stoots; and two sisters, Frances Sorrell and Hazel Pittman.

Pallbearers for the service are Branon Fergie, Colton Qualls, Danny Austin, Gerald Whittemore, Glenn Stoots and Dale Saitta.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Friends of Heart, 74 Directors Row, Jackson, TN 38305. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.

Trudy Susan Smith

Trudy celebrated her 70th birthday by gaining her angel wings, leaving this world peacefully at 6:59 AM. on January 29, 2026. She fought a brave and graceful battle with liver cancer, facing it with wisdom, faith, and even humor until her body grew tired. Comforted by her belief that death is nothing to fear, she trusted fully in God and was ready to reunite with her mother and rest in the loving arms of Jesus. Though her passing leaves an ache that words cannot ease, her family finds comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and is watching over them with love. Her strength, generosity, and joyful spirit will be remembered always. A private service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. To know her was to love her. She embodied wisdom, grace, strength, humor, and a deep love for her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was breezy, happy-go-lucky, and endlessly charming. Her love and her smile were truly unmatched.

The Lord’s Prayer

“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Gods’ Promise

“God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, or sun without rain. But God did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears and light for the way. And for all who believe in His kingdom above, He answers their faith with everlasting love.

John 16:22

“Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”

“The love you gave in life keeps people alive beyond their time, anyone who has given love will live on in one another’s heart.” Cicero
