"Pregnancy is a major risk factor for severe disease and death from COVID-19. Mothers with COVID-19 also have an increased risk of preterm delivery. The good news is COVID-19 transmission can be prevented by masking and vaccination. These are the only proven ways to protect yourself, your unvaccinated children, and the community from continued COVID-19 transmission. The COVID-19 vaccines have been found to be safe and effective in several studies, and therefore the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists strongly recommends COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy and/or while breastfeeding. Vaccination helps to prevent severe disease, even if you do become infected, and the immunity that your body creates from the vaccine crosses the placenta and through breast milk to protect your newborn after delivery. With cases in our community rising, everyone is at risk. Don't wait... get vaccinated today!" - Yasmin Wilkinson, MS, MD
