Let’s talk about purging ✨
If you’ve recently started a new skincare treatment and noticed a temporary breakout, don’t panic; it may be purging, not a reaction.
Purging happens when active ingredients (like retinol, chemical exfoliants, or professional treatments) speed up cell turnover. Congestion that was already beneath the surface comes up faster than usual, which can look like new breakouts.
What purging looks like:
• Small breakouts in areas you normally experience congestion
• Begins within the first 2–4 weeks of a new treatment
• Improves as your skin adjusts
What it’s not:
• Sudden irritation, burning, or rash
• Breakouts in totally new areas
• Worsening acne that doesn’t improve over time
Purging is often a sign the treatment is doing its job, but guidance matters. Our providers customize every plan so your skin stays healthy, balanced, and supported through every phase.
