💐 Our final Volunteer Week spotlight features Pastor Matthew Pettus, Camden Campus Pastoral Care volunteer, whose volunteer service is rooted in dedication, positivity and compassion.

Pastor Matthew shares:
“For 25 years, it’s been an honor to support patients and team members through prayer, conversation and bedside visits. Many face illness or loss, and often, my role is just to be there—with a listening ear, gentle prayer or small comfort.

Volunteering with Southeast Georgia Health System is deeply rewarding. For me, it’s more than volunteering—it’s a mission to serve others, share God’s love and support all who enter the hospital.”

Thank you, Pastor Pettus, for your faithfulness and devotion to those you serve.

As Volunteer Week comes to a close, we reflect on all of the incredible volunteers who help our Garden of Gratitude grow every day. We’re grateful for each and every volunteer who has chosen to be dedicated to our mission. Thank you for the time and heart you give to our patients, team members and community!

If you play high-contact sports, a hit can feel minor—but a concussion can have lasting effects if not treated properly. Lindsey Sweat, MD, primary care and sports medicine physician, emphasizes the importance of early evaluation, proper rest and guided recovery.

✅ Don’t play through the symptoms—dizziness, confusion, headache or balance issues are red flags.
✅ Rest is critical, especially in the first 48 hours. Limit screens, reading and physical activity.
✅ Gradual recovery is essential. Gentle activity like walking, yoga or stationary cycling can help—but always under medical guidance.

Volunteer Spotlight 💐 Aliyah Pinkney, a Brunswick Campus Teen Volunteer, spreads positivity that helps our garden of gratitude flourish. Aliyah shares:

“Volunteering at the Southeast Georgia Health System Miriam & Hugh Nunnally Maternity Care Center has brought me closer to my dream of becoming a midwife by giving me hands-on experience in the field and a real look inside the Maternity department.

My goals and determination keep me motivated to step out of my comfort zone and make the most of every opportunity. A memorable part of my experience has been shadowing nurses and doctors, seeing firsthand how the department operates.

My advice for anyone considering volunteering is to not just complete the hours, but to truly absorb the knowledge and experiences, as they are the first steps toward achieving your future goals.”

Thank you for all you do, Aliyah!

Volunteer Spotlight 💐 Today we celebrate Delores Magoon, Camden Campus Radiology department volunteer. Her dedication plants seeds of joy in our patients and team members. Delores shares:

“My volunteer work in the Radiology department is rewarding, and I enjoy helping the team. I remember an older couple stopping me in the hallway to say how glad they were that I was volunteering. It wasn’t anything grand, just a few kind words, but it stayed with me and reminds me that even small efforts can matter.

I feel truly fortunate to give back to the community through my volunteer work—it’s a modest contribution, but one I hold close to my heart.”

Thank you for your dedication and service, Delores!
