Meet Tori Briggs, Medical Office Assistant at Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Pediatrics, Camden Campus!

👋 About Me:
"I’m a compassionate and dedicated Medical Office Assistant who takes pride in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for every patient. Outside of work, I’m very family oriented and love spending quality time with the people who mean the most to me. My family is everything, and I enjoy making memories together—whether through everyday moments or special occasions.”

💬 I Wish My Patients Knew...
"Work happens behind the scenes to prevent harm and ensure patient safety.
By verifying patient information, confirming appointments, reviewing chart accuracy and communicating with the entire health care team, we ensure everything is accurate before a patient is ever seen.

I pay close attention to details and speak up if something doesn't seem right. Whether it’s confirming personal information, identifying discrepancies or helping coordinate care, these actions are all part of anticipating potential situations before it becomes a problem. My goal is to help create a safe, organized and supportive environment so patients can feel confident that their care is being handled with attention to detail.”

As we wrap up Patient Safety Week, we thank Tori and all our amazing team members who work tirelessly behind the scenes to protect and support patients. Every day, their dedication ensures we provide the highest level of care.

Meet Kate Rosser, BSRS, ARRT RT(R)(CT), CT Technologist at our Brunswick Campus!

👋 About Me:
"I’m married with four children and four cats. (Yes, it’s a full house!) My kids range from 15 months to 20 years old, so life is always busy. I’ve been with the Health System for almost 12 years, starting as a Tech Aid before moving into X-ray and, eventually, CT. I love what I do and am dedicated to making every patient’s experience as positive as possible."

💬 I Wish My Patients Knew...
"Sometimes when we need to delay or reschedule an exam, it’s not about inconvenience—it’s about ensuring your safety. Our contrast injection protocol requires us to verify recent kidney function for certain patients before proceeding. If those lab results aren’t available at the time of the exam, we may need to draw labs and reschedule.

Our contrast allergy protocol is also crucial in reducing the risk of allergic reactions. For some patients, pre-medication is necessary, and we need at least twelve hours before administering contrast. If patients haven’t been properly medicated, rescheduling is the safest option.

I completely understand how frustrating it can be to wait for lab results or to be rescheduled, but I want patients to know that these steps are in place for their safety. We’re doing our best to prevent risks and ensure that every exam is as safe as possible."

Our Patient Safety Week spotlights continue! Follow along as we celebrate the hardworking professionals who make a difference every day.

That electric shock shooting down your arm after a tackle? ⚡ You’re not imagining it.

Football players and wrestlers often experience “burners” or “stingers”—a sharp, burning pain that starts in the shoulder and runs down the arm. According to Gregory Kelley, MD, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon at Summit Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery, it happens when nerves in the neck and shoulder are stretched during impact.

Most stingers resolve quickly, but repeat episodes could signal something more serious. Knowing when to rest, and when to get checked, matters.

Meet Jennifer Gipson, Registrar at our Camden Campus!

👋 About Me:
"I’ve been with our Health System for over three years and absolutely LOVE it! I’m thrilled to be part of a team that’s constantly moving forward with patient safety and innovation."

💬 I Wish My Patients Knew...
"When we ask for your name and date of birth, it’s not just a routine—it’s a key part of our commitment to keeping you safe. We verify your information, insurance and ID to make sure you’re getting the right care and to avoid mix-ups, which could lead to serious safety issues or privacy concerns.

When we provide cost estimates, it’s not about delaying your care—it’s about meeting metrics that help us ensure we’re delivering the best service possible."

Stay tuned as we continue to share more team member spotlights throughout the week to honor Patient Safety Week and highlight our ongoing efforts to keep our community safe.

This Patient Safety Week, we’re spotlighting a few incredible individuals who play an essential role in our effort to achieve “zero harm.” Our team members strive to ensure high-quality care all year round, and we're excited to share the voices behind that commitment.

Meet Ira Jones, Scheduler at our Brunswick Campus!

👋 About Me:
"I’ve been in health care for over 17 years, and I’m passionate about improving the entire patient experience. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, and I’m particularly focused on health care leadership, team development and ensuring patient safety by streamlining processes behind the scenes."

💬 I Wish My Patients Knew...
"Before a patient even arrives for their appointment, we’re reviewing orders, diagnosis codes and preparation instructions to ensure the right test is scheduled at the right time. By catching issues like incorrect exams, missing authorizations or mismatched information before the visit, we prevent unnecessary radiation, repeat testing and delays. Most patients never see this work, but it directly protects them.

I’m proud of the prevention work we do behind the scenes. Many health care errors don’t happen in the exam room—they begin with incorrect demographics, wrong orders or incomplete documentation. By verifying this information early and working closely with provider practices, we stop potential problems before they can impact the patient.

I wish patients knew that safety starts before they even step through the door. When we ask for your name multiple times, verify your information or request updated insurance details, it’s not because we’re being repetitive—it’s because we’re working to protect you.

As Chair of the Department Governance Council (DGC) in my area, I’m committed to incorporating High-Reliability Organization (HRO) principles into our daily practices. By speaking up when something doesn’t seem right and collaborating with clinical teams to clarify orders, we prevent delays, billing issues and potential harm."

Stay tuned for more stories from our dedicated team throughout Patient Safety Week, and let’s continue to celebrate their commitment to quality care.
