A little bloated after holiday meals? You’re definitely not alone. Try these simple tips to feel better fast:

✅ Hydrate: Water helps flush excess sodium and supports digestion.
✅ Walk: Movement helps gas move through the digestive tract.
✅ Eat Smaller, Lighter Meals: Give your system a chance to reset after heavy foods.
✅ Limit Carbonated Drinks: Bubbles add air and worsen bloating.
✅ Focus on Whole Foods: Eat lean protein, cooked vegetables, rice, oatmeal, soups.
✅ Don’t Skip Meals: Skipping can slow digestion and worsen bloating later.
✅ Give it Time: Post-holiday bloating often resolves within a few days.

And remember, if digestive symptoms become frequent or painful, our providers are always here to help. Call us during office hours at 330-225-6468 or visit our website 24/7 to request an appointment.

As I begin this next chapter, I do so with a full and grateful heart. While I’m excited for retirement, it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to my patients, staff, and colleagues who have meant so much to me over the years. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to earn your trust and care for your health.

Please know that you will continue to be in excellent hands with my partners here at DDC, who I trust completely. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives and this incredible community.

God bless and wishing you all a happy and healthy holiday season.

Fiber is one of the easiest ways to support digestion, stay regular, and keep your gut happy — especially during holiday meals. Here are some simple fiber tips and high-fiber foods to add to your plate this season!

✅ Fiber 101: Simple Tips
✔ Increase Slowly: Adding too much fiber too fast can cause bloating and gas - slow and steady is best.
✔ Drink Water: Fiber works best when paired with adequate hydration.
✔ Spread Throughout the Day: Aim for fiber at each meal instead of all at once.
✔ Mix Types: Both soluble and insoluble fiber support digestion in different ways.
✔ Choose Whole Foods (when possible): Whole fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes provide natural fiber plus nutrients.

✅ High-Fiber Foods to Add to Your Plate
✔ Fruits: Apples or Pears (with skin), Berries, Oranges, Dried Fruits (prunes & figs in moderation)
✔ Vegetables: Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Sweet Potatoes (with skin), Carrots, Green Beans
✔ Whole Grains: Oatmeal, Brown Rice, Quinoa, Whole-Grain Breads
✔ Legumes & Nuts: Beans (black beans, chickpeas, lentils), Nuts & Seeds (chia, flax, almonds)

💜 If you have IBS, IBD, or sensitive digestion, it's important to talk to your provider about the best fiber source(s) for you.

GERD loves the holidays…but that doesn’t mean you have to suffer through it. Here are common triggers to watch for and small habits that can make a big difference. If heartburn is becoming more frequent, let’s talk about it!

🔥 Food & Drink Triggers
Alcohol (especially wine & cocktails)
Chocolate
Peppermint (candies, desserts, cocoa)
Fried or fatty foods
Spicy dishes
Tomato-based foods (sauces, soups)
Citrus fruits & juices
Carbonated drinks

🔥 Eating Habits That Trigger Reflux
Large or heavy meals
Eating late at night
Lying down soon after eating
Overeating after skipping meals

✅Small Habits That Make a Big Difference
✔ Eat small portions to reduce pressure on the stomach.
✔ Finish meals at least 2–3 hours before lying down to prevent reflux.
✔ Sip water between bites to slow eating and reduce irritation.
✔ Choose 1-2 indulgences to limit trigger foods.
✔ Stay upright after meals or take a short walk rather than lying down.
✔ Elevate your head if reflux worsens overnight.
✔ Wear loose clothing to decrease abdominal pressure and reflux.

Traveling for the holidays? A few small habits can go a long way in keeping your digestion on track — from hydration to routine-friendly snacks. Safe travels and happy holidays!

✅Stay Hydrated
Flying and long car rides can quickly lead to dehydration, which worsens constipation and bloating. Keep a water bottle with you and sip often.

✅Stick to a Routine (when/if possible)
Try to eat meals and use the restroom around your usual schedule. Your gut thrives on consistency.

✅Pack Familiar Foods
Bring snacks you know your stomach tolerates well to avoid long gaps between meals or risky food choices.

✅Keep Moving
Long periods of sitting slow digestion. Take breaks to walk, stretch, or stand whenever possible.

✅Take Meds as Prescribed
Pack medications in your carry-on and take them on schedule, including biologics, maintenance meds, or supplements your provider has recommended.

✅Don’t Ignore Bathroom Urges
Holding it in can worsen constipation, bloating, and discomfort.

✅Manage Stress
Travel stress can trigger GI symptoms. Build in extra time, practice deep breathing, and give yourself grace.

Holiday food doesn’t have to mean holiday discomfort. Here are a few simple eating tips to help you enjoy the holiday season and keep your gut feeling its best.

✅ DOs (What Helps Your Gut)
✔ Do Pace Yourself: Eat slowly and stop when you feel comfortably full — overeating is a top trigger for bloating, reflux, and abdominal pain.
✔ Do Balance Your Plate: Pair rich foods with fiber and protein (veggies, whole grains, lean meats) to support digestion and blood sugar.
✔ Do Stay Hydrated: Water helps prevent constipation and bloating, especially with salty or heavy holiday meals.
✔ Do Keep a Routine When You Can: Eating and using the restroom around your usual schedule helps keep digestion regular — even during travel.
✔ Do Take a Short Walk After Meals: A gentle walk can help reduce bloating and support digestion.

❌ DON’Ts (What Often Triggers Symptoms)
✖ Don’t Overeat Late: Large, late meals increase reflux, heartburn, and overnight discomfort.
✖ Don’t Skip Meals All Day: Arriving starving often leads to overeating and GI upset.
✖ Don’t Overdo Alcohol or Carbonation: Both can worsen reflux, bloating, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
✖ Don’t Ignore New or Worsening Symptoms: Occasional discomfort is common — persistent symptoms are not.
