⏰ Daylight Saving Time is this weekend!

We “spring forward” Sunday morning — which means we lose an hour of sleep. And if you have kids… you already know that can feel like losing three. 😅

Here are a few tips to make the transition smoother:

🌙 Shift bedtime gradually
Move bedtime 10–15 minutes earlier each night leading up to the time change.

☀️ Get morning sunlight
Natural light helps reset your child’s internal clock.

📵 Wind down screens early
Turn off devices at least an hour before bed to support melatonin production.

🛁 Stick to your routine
Bath, books, snuggles — consistency is key.

Most kids adjust within a few days, but you might notice some extra crankiness, earlier wake-ups, or tougher bedtimes at first — totally normal!

Spring in Brunswick means sunshine, warmer days… and POLLEN. 🌼🌿

If your child has a runny nose, itchy eyes, or a cough that seems to improve once they’re indoors, seasonal allergies may be to blame.

How to tell the difference from a cold:

🌸 Allergies:
• Clear, watery drainage
• Itchy or watery eyes
• No fever

🤧 Cold:
• Thicker drainage
• Possible fever
• Typically improves within 7–10 days

Not sure which one you’re dealing with? That’s what we’re here for. Give us a call to schedule an appointment at Sandbar Pediatrics — we’re happy to help your little one feel better fast! 💙

Sugar doesn’t cause hyperactivity — the party usually does 💕🍪

With Valentine’s Day parties happening at school this week, we’ll probably hear a lot of
“They had candy and now they’re wild!”

But research shows sugar itself doesn’t actually make kids hyper.

Think about when sweets are usually handed out — classroom parties, birthdays, holidays, and celebrations. Kids aren’t buzzing because of the cupcake or heart-shaped cookie… they’re excited because they’re with friends, playing games, exchanging valentines, and having FUN!

What really boosts the energy:
• Exciting environments
• Lots of classmates and friends
• Games, music, and activities
• Changes in routine or later bedtimes

Sweet treats are okay in moderation — a balanced diet and consistent routines matter far more than the occasional Valentine’s cookie or piece of chocolate. 💌🍫

A New Name Inspired by Our Community 🌴

KidMed is now Sandbar Pediatrics!

The sandbar represents a place where families gather, play, and feel safe — and that’s exactly how we want our practice to feel for you. While the name is new, everything else stays the same:

• Primary + Urgent Care
• Same caring providers
• Same dedication to your children

Thank you for growing with us as we begin this new chapter together!

Flu Season Is Hitting Hard 🤧 — Let’s Protect Our Families!

We are seeing a higher number of flu cases and more severe symptoms this season, especially in children. The flu is more than just a bad cold — it can lead to high fevers, dehydration, missed school, and even hospital visits.

The good news? There are simple steps that make a BIG difference:

• Get your flu vaccine – It’s the best protection we have and helps reduce severity even if you do catch it.
• Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• Cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue.
• Avoid touching your face (eyes, nose, mouth).
• Stay home when sick to prevent spreading germs to classmates, coworkers, and loved ones.
• Disinfect high-touch surfaces like phones, doorknobs, and keyboards.

Flu spreads quickly, but prevention spreads faster. A few small habits can help keep our kids in school, parents at work, and families healthy all season long. 💙
