Update On - Dean David And Life Of A Transplant Mom

Every week, Dean David has to have his port and lines changed, which means a big needle poke and being held down by his favorite friend, Mrs. Elisabeth, from Child Life.

So on days like these, I try to give Dean David a big surprise; this week he got the Hot Wheels City Downtown Candy Shop!

LIFE OF A TRANSPLANT MOM

Dean David has been suffering from severe tiredness and headaches with nausea today. He dozed off periodically while playing with his toys this morning. Afterwards, the nurse and PCA took him for a lengthy walk around the unit as I cleaned and made his bed.

Dean David is now relaxing in the bed tent I made for him!!!

Dean David got to hunt eggs that the nurses hid in the hallway and received Easter baskets.

This wasn’t how we expected to celebrate Easter this year, but we had a wonderful time as a family with our sweet boys.

Update On - Dean David And Life Of A Transplant Mom

Dean David isn’t sleeping like he should; no matter what we do, he is up all night, hyper and restless. So my mom and I have to sit up with him all night to make sure his behavior is under control.

This is a side effect of one of his medications; it’s making him very hyper and restless, so he stays awake until he passes out.

(Video was at 9:20am after not sleeping all night!)

Update On - Dean David And Life Of A Transplant Mom

Today we almost lost our sweet Dean David!

Dean David is still in the ICU today; they found that his medical port wasn’t drawing back, so they did some testing and found it was clogged with fibers. (I’m not sure how that happens.) They put some medicine in his port to help break up the fibers.

They did have to put an IV in, and they got it on the first poke. They also had to give him some sedation medication to put him in a twilight sleep because Dean David has had some pretty traumatic pokes in the past, and his veins are not the best. When they did all of this, they had to stop Dean David’s medicines, and when they stopped the dose for me, his blood pressure dropped to 50/19. He turned very white.

My mom said there were a lot of people in and out; they were doing everything they could. My mom asked the nurse if she needed to call his mother because I was over at the Ronald McDonald house with Wyatt Grady, and she said, 'Hold on, let me restart this medicine.' They did, and Dean David’s blood pressure went back up.

Dean David is doing okay right now, and I’m getting something to eat and heading over there for the night. My mom is taking Wyatt Grady over to the Ronald McDonald house.

Things are getting more critical. Like I said in my last video, we really need a heart.

Please keep praying for Dean David and that a heart comes so we can get him home. Pray he has a good rest of the day too. I’m going to watch some movies with him, and I have something I want to do with him tonight. We’re going to have a good time. I’m also going to let him have my iPad for a little bit because it’s his favorite, but once he gets on it, he wants to stay up all night, so I have to take it away at some point, which is hard for me because he is sick, and I just want him to have it.

But other than that, we’re just all trying to hang in there.

Dad will be back in town tomorrow. Aunt Candice is coming tomorrow; it’s her birthday this weekend, and we’re having Easter. We’re just hoping for a smooth weekend.

Update On - Dean David And Life Of A Transplant Mom

On Friday night, Dean David had to be taken to the ICU; he was having trouble breathing and his lips were blue. They said his body was filling up with fluid again and he was drowning in it.

They had to start two new medications and increase his milrinone; they have since stopped one of the medicines because it wasn’t working, but kept the other one, which is dopamine.

Dean’s blood pressures are still pretty low, so they are talking about trying to lower the milrinone dose to help bring them back up. I’m not sure how long Dean David will be in the ICU; maybe Monday or Tuesday, but it could be longer. I think they’re trying to make sure everything is good before transferring him back to the regular unit.

Dean David is more like himself; I did get to see him last night for a little bit, but he was sleeping.

Today, my mom said he has had a good day; he is sleeping. Me and Wyatt Grady are on our way up to see him. Wyatt Grady and I got back last night from our stay at home; Wyatt Grady had his shot and his 4-month appointment. Everything went well, and he is growing good; the doctor was impressed with his development milestones; he is really doing things early.

Wyatt Grady is glad to see his brother, and Dean David was just really excited to see Wyatt Grady; hopefully, they will get more time together today.

Dad is on the bus home; he had a great week spending it with Dean David, and we’re grateful he was able to do that because Dean David misses his dad so much.

Please continue to pray that a heart comes for Dean David; it’s getting more and more critical every day, and it’s getting harder.

But we just keep doing all the things and making him happy and trying to stay positive because God already has a plan, and He knows what’s going to happen. I just hope that plan is that Dean David gets a heart and gets to go home.
