Pulled Chicken Challenge 🍗
We kicked off something new this year...and turned up the competition in our kitchens!

For our very first annual Recipe Challenge, cafeteria teams across the district were invited to create their own original lunch recipes using one specific ingredient: pulled chicken.

The goal? To bring fresh ideas to our menus while giving students a say in what they want to eat with the winning dish earning a spot on next year’s menu!

From tacos and nachos to pasta dishes and BBQ sandwiches, our staff brought the creativity and flavor!

Then last week on Friday, 29 student ambassadors from Davila & SFA Middle Schools and Rudder and Bryan High Schools came together to taste and judge all 23 entries.

The tasting was completely blind, and each dish was ranked based on taste, texture, appearance, and student appeal. It was a great day of friendly competition and collaboration as everyone came together to support, taste, and celebrate the creativity happening across our kitchens.

This week, Tracy is celebrating the wonderful team at Henderson for the welcoming atmosphere they create every day. With a supportive kitchen family and a focus on making students feel valued, this crew turns mealtime into a positive experience that kids look forward to. We’re proud of the care and energy they bring to campus!

Feature Friday: Kemp Elementary ✨

This week, we’re stopping by Kemp Elementary, where this fun-loving team serves up to 420 breakfasts and up to 560 lunches each day.

🍕 Student Favorite Meals: Pizza and roasted chicken wings
🌮 Staff Favorite Meals: Tacos, nachos, pizza sandwich, and spaghetti

Favorite parts of the job?
This team loves talking with the students, hearing their honest (and often funny!) thoughts, and being part of the fun moments around campus like April Fools’ Day jokes. They say the kids’ big personalities make every day entertaining!

Take a moment to say thank you to Maricela, Raquel, Luisa, Marisela, Veronica, and Sara for the joy, laughter, and care they bring to their students each day!

Last Friday we celebrated National Burrito Day the best way we know how...with Macho Burritos!!🌯 Our cafeteria teams brought the energy and made it such a fun, delicious day for everyone. We’re so thankful for the hard work they put in to keep our students smiling and well fed!

This week, we’re stopping by Ross Elementary, where this wonderful team keeps students smiling with meals they love.

Favorite parts of the job?
This team loves getting to see and laugh with the students every day, building those connections that make their work so meaningful. They also appreciate the flexible schedule that allows them to be present with their families outside of work.

One special story from the team: Ms. Liz shared that her two dreams were to own a restaurant and to be a foster mom, and in many ways, working in school nutrition allows her to live out both of those dreams every day❤

🍗 Staff Favorite Meals: Roasted chicken wings, personal pizzas, and chicken tenders/nuggets

Favorite parts of the job?
Every single team member shared the same answer: THE KIDS💙
They love interacting with students, hearing about what’s going on in their lives, and the moments where they can help brighten a child’s day. They also enjoy working together as a strong, supportive & fun-loving team.

Round two = even sweeter results😋
At Jones Elementary, students helped us test not one, but TWO churros: a classic one and a cinnamon cream cheese filled one (yum!)

While both were crowd favorites, the cinnamon cream cheese churro stole the show with ZERO negative votes 🤯🔥

Huge thank you to our amazing campus teams and supervisors for helping bring this taste test to life. We love getting students involved in shaping next year’s menu!

New menu items in the making 👀✨
We kicked off our taste testing series at Henderson Elementary with churro bites and let’s just say…they didn’t last long!

Students cast their votes the fun way by placing stickers on a 😊 or 😕 and the results were clear: a big hit all around!
