Around 117,000 people living in England and Wales had a hip replacement in 2024. Although hip replacements are often thought of as a surgery that mainly older people need, reports from previous years show that around 43% of these operations are done in people aged 50 to 69 years old.

Clinical Challenges in Managing Shoulder Osteoarthritis and Suprascapular Neuropathy.

Chronic shoulder pain is a common and multifactorial condition. Suprascapular nerve neuropathy, although relatively uncommon, may lead to pain, weakness, and muscle atrophy as a result of extrinsic compression, trauma, or inflammation. When it occurs in the presence of glenohumeral osteoarthritis, o...

Does losing weight make an athlete better? Associations between body composition and performance.

In endurance sports such as running and cross-country skiing, a lighter body weight can improve relative power generation and reduce energy consumption. However, losing weight requires an energy deficit, which can negatively impact health and performance. Therefore, weight optimization always involv...

What Is Abductor Hallucis Pain and What Causes It?

The abductor hallucis muscle is located on the inner border of the foot. This muscle bends the big toe and moves it out to the side. More importantly, it supports the medial longitudinal arch, located on the inside border of the foot. The abductor hallucis is a common area for people to experience f...

Most athletes hit a plateau after they’ve “graduated” from PT or been cleared by their doctor.
They’re told to “progress as tolerated”—but no one shows them what that actually means, or how to do it safely on their own.

At ATR Sports Medicine, we bridge that gap.
Your progression is guided by objective markers, not guesswork—monitoring how your tissues tolerate load and how your mechanics hold up under fatigue.

Because real readiness isn’t proven on a treatment table. It’s proven in movement and performance.

This is where most comebacks fall short.

More good news for patients taking GLP-1 meds (such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro). These meds have shown to DECREASE 90 day complication rates in knee replacement surgery. As can be expected, morbidly obese patients have higher risk of almost all complications after orthopedic surgery.
Results of a study out of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (JBJS)
Key Results (The "90-Day" Findings):
* Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI): Significant reduction in 90-day infection rates (1.0% in the GLP-1 group vs. 1.8% in the control group).
Medical Complications: Overall 90-day medical complications dropped from 12.7% to 10.6%.
Readmissions: A major decrease in 90-day hospital readmissions (5.3% vs. 8.9%)
Risk Mitigation: Morbidly obese patients on GLP-1s saw their complication rates drop to levels nearly identical to those with much lower BMIs.

Hip Replacement Dislocation.

Normal hip joints have many surrounding structures that help to stabilize the hip joint. These structures include muscles, ligaments, and the normal bony structure of the hip joint. Together, these structures keep the ball (the femoral head) within the socket (the acetabulum).
