The Signature Story-Bob Palmarez

I got into home health care over 20 years ago, but I got into home care 7 years ago, after my Dad passed away. At the time my Dad, who was in his mid 80’s, was showing signs of slowing down; and he was starting to be more forgetful. We just took that as part of the aging process, which it is, but we had no clue that we could help him.

One day Mom called and said that Dad had fallen at night while going to the bathroom and hit his head. He had been taken to the hospital. After several days we were told that he had some slight bleeding in his brain but was too weak to survive surgery. We were told he would never regain his full faculties.

He was transferred to a nursing facility. He was not able to get around anymore, and he had very limited mental capacities. He was aware but could not communicate very well.

We felt helpless and extremely guilty that we:
