Home of the Funeral Doods. We believe that if anyone, or any firm, serves long enough, he will succeed or fail depending on the policy he pursues. In the course of experiencing your faith in us through a century, we have developed a creed that is very sacred to us as we serve you. Each final statement we present to all we serve carries this sentiment. We wish to express to you our sincere sympathy in a time of loss as well as our appreciation for your trust in us. It is our purpose to give you thoughtful service, and if in doing so we have lightened your burden, our aim has been accomplished. We sincerely hope that our service has been deserving of your confidence. We want all to know that this measure of gratitude for our success is always foremost in our thoughts and that your confidence is, and always will be, our sacred trust.

Myth: Funeral directors are so used to death, that they don’t feel it anymore.
Reality: We do.

Funeral directors have families too. Parents. Children. Spouses.

Sometimes we see someone who looks like our spouse, someone our daughters' age, or someone who laughs the way our mom does. We notice those things.

Our job is to stay strong and resolute in the face of grief. We keep a clear head and worry about the details, so you can fall apart if you need to. That’s the service we provide.

Ice, Ice, body... 🎶

Before embalming was common, families used blocks of ice to preserve a body at home.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, “cooling boards” were used in parlors to slow decomposition until burial.

Helen Keller was no stranger to loss.

At just 19 months old, she lost her hearing and eyesight following an illness. Later in life, she experienced the deaths of her beloved teacher and lifelong friend, Anne Sullivan. Keller held Anne's hand as she passed away.

Presidents' Day is a reminder that remembrance takes many forms:

The towering seated statue of Abraham Lincoln

The carved visages of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln at Mount Rushmore

The preserved home of George Washington in Mount Vernon

The Harry S. Truman Library marking his burial site in Independence, Missouri

The eternal flame that burns at the gravesite of John F. Kennedy in Arlington National Cemetery.

And of course, the memorials we see daily on our currency, stamps, highways, scholarships and much more.

For most of us, it looks simpler.

A recipe card in their handwriting
A quilt made from their shirts
A tree planted in the backyard
A playlist of “heir songs
A framed note
A favorite chair no one else wants to move.

Sometimes it’s the stories told at the dinner table,
Or lighting a candle on their birthday.
Maybe it’s using their coffee mug every morning.

Either way, presidents' Day reminds us that there isn't one right way to honor a life or legacy.

Presidents’ Day is often about history and leadership, but it also raises a quieter question:

How do we choose to be remembered?

If you’ve ever thought about how people will remember you, this reflection is for you. Read more: linkedin.com/pulse/presidents-day-intentional-legacy-krill-funeral-service-jzfwc

Presidents’ Day invites us to reflect on leadership, history, and national legacy. But beyond the long weekend and the history lessons, it also raises a quieter question: How do we choose to be remembered? When we think of presidential remembrance, we think of grandeur and granite: The towering se...

Where does “six feet under” come from?

It's traced back to London’s Great Plague in 1665, when city officials issued an order that graves should be dug at least six feet deep, out of fear that shallow burials could spread disease.

Today, most modern graves are often closer to 4 feet deep, depending on local regulations and cemetery practices.

So “six feet under” is more cultural shorthand than literal standard.

National Pizza Day might seem like an odd moment for a funeral home to chime in…

But think of your estate plan like a pizza.

Creating it now ensures everyone in your family gets a slice of the pie later.

Why is the living room called the living room?

Before funeral homes existed, families held funerals at home. The body was prepared and laid out in the front parlor, where guests were often entertained. As a result, this room also became known as the "death room."

As funerals moved to specialized funeral homes in the 1900s, magazines like “Ladies’ Home Journal” rebranded the ”death room" to the "living room," a name that symbolized warmth and liveliness.

Just a little , brought to you by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II knew loss deeply. Over her 96 years, she outlived her father, King George VI; her sister, Princess Margaret; her husband, Prince Philip; and many close friends (and animals!) Through it all, she carried her duties with grace, showing that resilience and compassion can coexist with profound personal grief.
