Today is the day 7 years ago when I was standing in my office and received the call. The nurse said “You have cancer.”

It’s a day that changed my life.

It’s a day that made me look at my life differently.

It’s the day that I decided I had to change my life if I wanted to live.

It’s a day when I decided that I never wanted anyone to feel like I felt when I heard those three dreaded words, “You have cancer.”

I changed my life by eating real, whole foods and moving my body. But the thing that I changed more than anything was the stress in my life. I decided that life was more than working 16 hour days, and I dealt with the pains of my past, and examined why cancer was in my life in the first place.

After the removal of my cancer tumor, the Oncologist said to me, “If you just take this pill, you can be sure to live for another 5 years.” I told her, “I want to live longer than 5 years. It’s my goal to live to 100.” I’ve made it to 7 and I’m so thankful every day.

It’s been a journey. Sometimes a hard one, but I know it was necessary.

The most important lesson that I have learned along the way is that I am responsible for my health. I have a say in how healthy I want to be or not be.

Every day – I get to decide.
