The Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology

The Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology ACEP is a nonprofit of licensed, allied health practitioners dedicated to energy psychology.

Energy Psychology (EP) is a family of evidence supported modalities that balance, restore and improve human functioning by combining physical interventions (using the acupuncture system, the chakras and other ancient systems of healing) with modern cognitive interventions such as imagery-based exposure therapy.

Energy psychology brings together cognitive approaches and somatic techniques to calm the body—where stress and trauma are often stored—so meaningful change can happen more efficiently. By working with the body’s bio-energy systems alongside the mind, practitioners often see deeper regulation, greater resilience, and more lasting shifts for their clients.

These mind-body methods integrate seamlessly with other therapeutic approaches and can support transformational change across trauma recovery, emotional well-being, performance, and everyday life.

Do you ever notice a knot in your stomach when it comes time to talk about fees?

Many practitioners—especially those in helping and healing professions—carry unexamined beliefs about money, service, and worth. This ACEP blog explores how money guilt can quietly impact your practice, and how energy-based approaches can help bring clarity, balance, and relief.

Through three simple steps, the article invites you to:
• Identify beliefs that create guilt around charging for services
• Reframe money as an exchange of energy and value
• Use energy practices to release internal blocks and establish healthier boundaries

If you’ve struggled with setting fees, asking for payment, or holding firm boundaries with compassion, this piece offers a grounded and reflective perspective.

❄️ Winter often asks us to slow down—yet beneath the stillness, important shifts are happening.

What if consciousness itself is the first and most essential tool in energy psychology?

This ACEP blog explores how awareness, intention, and receptivity shape the effectiveness of any energy psychology approach—before techniques like tapping, muscle testing, or acupressure even begin.

Rather than comparing methods, the article offers a broader conceptual framework for understanding how energy psychology works across modalities, cultures, and healing traditions. It invites practitioners and learners alike to deepen their relationship with consciousness as the foundation of change.

If you’re interested in strengthening your intuitive understanding of energy psychology and refining how you work with clients—or yourself—this is a meaningful place to start.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Gary Craig, the originator of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and a pioneer whose work profoundly shaped the field of energy psychology.

Gary’s legacy is extraordinary. Through his curiosity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to helping others, he developed EFT. This simple yet powerful approach has supported countless people in releasing emotional pain, healing trauma, and opening new possibilities for wellbeing. His generosity in freely sharing this work touched practitioners, clinicians, and individuals around the world.

We mourn not only the loss of a visionary, but of a deeply generous spirit. Gary helped expand what healing could be—not just as a concept, but as a lived experience. Whatever path you walk in this field, you have almost certainly walked on ground that Gary helped open.

We are especially moved by the words of his daughter and colleague, Tina Craig, who shared that through working alongside her father, she learned not only the mechanics of EFT, but the deeper intention behind it: to make this work accessible, reliable, and grounded in love and integrity.

As we honor Gary’s life and contributions, we hold his family, friends, and the global EFT community in our thoughts. May we carry forward his spirit of service, generosity, and possibility in all that we do.

ACEP was founded with a clear vision: to create a shared home where diverse energy psychology and healing modalities could come together, collaborate, and evolve.

In this ACEP blog, you’ll learn about the founding of ACEP through the story of co-founder David Gruder—his early skepticism, the moment he recognized energy psychology as a major shift in how healing could happen, and his commitment to building an organization rooted in ethics, integrity, and collective growth.

The post reflects on why ACEP was created, how its early leadership helped shape standards for the field, and why bringing practitioners out of silos has always been central to the organization’s mission.

Feeling stuck—even after doing the work in traditional therapy?
You’re not alone.

Conventional approaches like talk therapy and CBT often focus on insight, reflection, and changing thoughts or behaviors over time. For many people, this is helpful. And sometimes, it’s not enough.

Energy psychology takes a different approach.
Rather than working only with thoughts and emotions, energy psychology engages the mind, body, and the body’s energy systems in the same session. Techniques such as tapping (EFT, TFT) help calm the nervous system while you focus on the issue—often allowing stress, fear, or emotional intensity to shift more quickly and gently.

Many people turn to energy psychology after feeling “stuck,” overwhelmed, or limited—especially when they’ve gained insight but haven’t experienced lasting relief. In many cases, energy psychology supports change at the level where the distress is actually held.

It’s not either/or.
Many energy psychology practitioners also integrate conventional approaches, combining the strengths of both to support meaningful, sustainable healing.

Energy healing invites us to look more closely at something many of us take for granted: how information moves between thought, intention, and the physical body.

In this thoughtful ACEP blog, “How Energy Healing Works: Moving Between the Subtle and Physical Worlds,” Lori Chortkoff Hops, PhD, DCEP explores how energy healing and energy psychology bridge these realms—drawing on examples from tapping-based methods and intention-based practices.

This piece offers a thoughtful reflection on how subtle information, intention, and the body interact in healing work—and why these ideas continue to matter for practitioners and learners alike.

“Mindfulness meditation doesn’t change life. Life remains as fragile and unpredictable as ever. Meditation changes the heart’s capacity to accept life as it is.” — Sylvia Boorstein

Energy psychology builds on this same wisdom—working with both awareness and the body’s energy systems to support emotional regulation, resilience, and compassion in the midst of life’s uncertainty. Rather than trying to control or bypass experience, these approaches help expand our capacity to meet what arises with greater ease and balance.

If you’re curious about how energy psychology complements mindfulness practices and supports healing in a grounded, trauma-informed way, we invite you to learn more and explore available resources and practitioners.
