From Jessica Correnti ...

I’m not a huge fan of the phrase “heal from grief”, yet I find comfort in the phrase “healing through grief”.

Healing to me doesn’t mean fixed. It means that some light has entered the room. Some coping skills perhaps have been developed. Some joy coexists with the deep, raw painful side of grief.

A small switch of the context of the word or adding “-ing” which is an active/present tense instead of past tense can make a huge difference.

Looking forward to hearing what you think.

What to say when someone is grieving:

I'm really sorry.
I'm here for you.
I'd love to help you.
You are important to me.
I miss them too.
I'm thinking of you.
I love you.

What NOT to say when someone is grieving:

Time heals all wounds.
Things have to go on.
You have to be strong.
They wouldn't want you to be sad.
At least they didn't suffer.
You can have other children.
Just keep yourself busy.

Pre-planning offers you peace of mind. Here are three more reasons to consider pre-planning today:

1. No increases to the payment you have locked in.
2. The ability to consider religious, cultural, and special arrangements that may be difficult to recreate.
3. Understanding service options as well as creating a healthy conversation with your family around the funeral/death.

Have you started thinking about pre-planning? If not, here are three reasons to consider it.

1. Relieve the added burden of stress on family members and loved ones.
2. Leave behind a particular and unique message/last wishes.
3. Take advantage of flexible payment options and financial planning ahead of time.

Next week, we’ll share three more. Stay tuned!
