Feeling anxious, irritated or worried? Experiencing ruminating thoughts, difficulty breathing or racing heart? Let’s talk about box breathing.

Start by sitting up straight. Place one hand on your chest and the other on your belly.

When you start breathing in, breath in through your nose and out through your mouth in a slow and controlled manner.

Follow the pattern of breathing in for 4 seconds, holding for 4 seconds, breathing out for 4 seconds and holding for 4 seconds.

Repeat as many time necessary until your breathing is even and steady.

Breathing is such an integral part of our physics and mental-being. By regulating your breathing, you are slowing down your heart rate and rebalancing the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in your body. By focusing on the breathing sequence, you are distracting yourself from the immediate emotion or thought, giving you time to ground yourself and find some calm.

Don’t forget to take a minute to breathe today.
