✨ Teething & Complementary Feeding for Our Breastfeeding Babies ✨
Teething can bring on drooling, fussiness, and the need for extra comfort — and often, that comfort is the breast. Nursing during this stage not only soothes sore gums but also provides immune support while little ones adjust to new changes.
Around 6 months, many babies begin showing readiness for complementary foods (while still breastfeeding as their main source of nutrition). Signs of readiness include:
🍎 Sitting up with minimal support
🥄 Showing interest in your food
👅 Ability to move food from spoon to swallow
✋🏾 Reaching or grabbing food
Breastmilk (or formula if using) is still the foundation, but soft fruits, iron-rich foods, and gentle textures can be introduced alongside nursing.
💡 Tip: If teething makes feeding uncomfortable, offering chilled (not frozen) teething rings or cool washcloths before nursing can ease gum pain.
🌸 Remember, every baby is unique. Trust your instincts, follow your baby’s cues, and lean on your sisters for support during this season of growth.
