Center for Research and Education in Special Environments

Center for Research and Education in Special Environments CRESE explores the interaction of exercise and extreme environments to study basic and translational science relevant to human performance.

The research enterprise of CRESE is broadly related to health, wellness, and performance of
first responders and warfighters although many findings will be applicable to the general
population and athletes. The research areas are comprehensive of extreme environments
including altitude, depth, extremes of temperature, and clinical care. Although the Center will
conducted primarily clinical and mechanistic trials among human subjects, Center faculty will
develop technology consistent with this mission and will engage in basic science studies as
needed.
