March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, a time to bring awareness on a condition that affects an estimated 1 in 10 women, yet very often goes undiagnosed for years.

Many symptoms of endometriosis are commonly dismissed as “just part of having a period.” But persistent or severe symptoms may be a sign that something more is going on.

If symptoms like these are interfering with your quality of life, it’s important to speak with a healthcare provider.

What if healthier food choices were already waiting in your grocery cart? 🛒🥦🍓

Researchers at the Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences - University at Buffalo tested a simple idea:

Provide families with healthy recipes and preload their online grocery carts with the ingredients needed to make them.

The result?

Families who received the preloaded carts purchased significantly MORE nutritious foods than those who received recipes alone.

When healthy options are easier and more automatic, families are more likely to choose them.

You may notice people wearing mismatched socks today.

The “Rock Your Socks” movement is a global symbol of Down Syndrome awareness, representing the extra copy of chromosome 21 that makes this community unique.

Today, we celebrate the individuals with Down Syndrome who enrich our schools, families, workplaces, and communities every day — and we recognize the importance of inclusion, support, and compassionate care.

Join us in rocking your socks and celebrating the Down Syndrome community. 🧦

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, a time to spotlight prevention, treatment, and survivorship.

New research from scientists at the Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences - University at Buffalo found that survivors experiencing moderate or severe psychological distress were significantly more likely to visit the emergency room than those without distress.

The takeaway: cancer care doesn’t end with treatment.

Mental health support is an essential part of survivorship and quality of life.

Studies like this help advance a more holistic approach to patient care, supporting both the physical and emotional well-being of people living with and beyond colorectal cancer.

Your kidneys may be small, but they’re powerful.

Every day, they:
• Filter waste and excess fluid from your blood
• Balance electrolytes like sodium and potassium
• Help regulate blood pressure
• Support red blood cell production
• Keep your body’s chemistry in balance

When kidneys aren’t functioning properly, the effects can touch nearly every organ system, often without obvious symptoms early on.

That’s why routine labs, blood pressure control, diabetes management, and hydration matter. 🔬

On World Kidney Day, take a moment to appreciate these quiet overachievers, and consider when your last kidney check was.

Sleep is foundational. But for many people, it’s fragile.

Stress, chronic pain, hormonal shifts, and busy schedules can all disrupt healthy rest. If you’re struggling, you’re not alone — and small changes can make a meaningful difference.

A few tools that may help support better sleep:

• Wearable sleep trackers to identify patterns
• Cooling sheets or temperature-regulating bedding
• Low-level night lights instead of overhead lighting
• Sunrise-style alarm clocks for gentler wakeups
• Blue-light–blocking or red-light glasses after sunset
• White noise machines or sound therapy
• Consistent wind-down routines and screen limits

If snoring, chronic insomnia, or persistent daytime fatigue are part of your story, it may be time to speak with a sleep specialist.

In many families, women have traditionally carried the role of health advocate.

Scheduling the appointments.
Tracking medications.
Noticing subtle changes.
Pushing for second opinions.
Making sure aging parents, children, and partners get the care they need.

This International Women’s Day, we acknowledge the women who have long been the coordinators, question-askers, and protectors of their family’s health. 💐
