A growing body of research suggests that high sugar intake is more strongly linked to heart disease risk than previously thought, even independent of cholesterol levels or body weight. Excessive sugar can increase blood pressure and prompt the liver to release harmful fats, which stress the cardiovascular system. Some studies indicate that getting 25% or more of daily calories from added sugar can more than double the risk of heart-related death.

WHY SUGAR POSES A MAJOR RISK TO THE HEART:

📑Inflammation: A diet high in sugar can lead to chronic inflammation, which damages blood vessel walls and accelerates atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).

📑Blood pressure: High sugar intake can contribute to high blood pressure, a known major risk factor for heart disease.

📑Triglycerides: Sugar significantly increases levels of triglycerides, a type of fat in the blood that, at high levels, raises heart disease risk.

📑Insulin resistance and diabetes: High sugar consumption can lead to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, which dramatically increases the risk of heart disease.

While high levels of bad cholesterol to remain a critical risk factor, these studies shifted the scientific consensus by highlighting that excessive sugar intake is an equally, if not more potent and direct contributor to cardiovascular mortality.

Exercise beats medication in treating depression study reveals astonishing truth

In 2025 a groundbreaking study involving 128,119 people has revealed that regular exercise can be more effective than traditional dr*gs in treating depression. For decades people have relied on medication to manage mental health struggles, often facing side effects and long adjustment periods. This new research challenges that approach, showing that physical activity not only improves mood but also strengthens the brain's natural ability to regulate stress and emotional balance.

Participants who engaged in consistent aerobic or strength-training exercises reported significant reductions in depressive symptoms. The study highlights how movement triggers the release of endorphins and other natural mood-enhancing chemicals in the brain. These changes support emotional resilience, improve sleep, boost energy levels, and even enhance cognitive function. Unlike medication that may treat symptoms temporarily, exercise addresses the root causes of mental health issues by reshaping brain chemistry and improving overall body health.

This discovery could transform the way we approach depression globally. Mental health professionals may increasingly prescribe personalised exercise routines alongside or even instead of traditional treatments. Communities and individuals are encouraged to see exercise not just as a physical necessity but as a powerful tool for mental well-being. Even small daily activities like brisk walking, cycling, or light resistance training can make a meaningful difference in emotional health.

Imagine a future where mental health care includes gyms and outdoor spaces as much as clinics and pharmacies. Where people are empowered to take control of their minds and bodies through movement. This study reminds us that nature’s own tools can sometimes be more powerful than any lab-created solution.

IYKYK

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by these holds 🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏽

These holds don’t just test your grip strength … they attack your soul and self esteem 🤣🤣🤣

But truth …
Grip strength while very often overlooked, is a great predictor of overall strength and injury resilience. Strong grip muscles anchor your wrists and forearms helping to stabilize the upper limb helping to reduce the risk of sprains, tendonitis and repetitive strain injuries.

Some ideas to add grip strength into your workouts ➡️
•Farmer carries - use dumbbells, kettlebells, trap bar, or buckets for variety - incorporate fat gripz, or towel holds for a bonus challenge!
Plate Pinch carries/holds - hold using your fingertips and thumb
Do these either for distance or time!

• Dead hangs (straight or flexed arm), Towel hangs/pull ups

For wrist and forearm isolation include wrist curls, and extensions, a wrist roll up, or rice bucket twists

If you haven’t been already, it’s time to get working on that grip!! 💪🏽
