We had a great time at the Buffalo Prenatal-Perinatal Network Touch-A-Truck event! 🚑

Our team was proud to be on site today, connecting with so many amazing families and community members. Events like this are such a great reminder of how important it is to meet people where they are, provide helpful resources and build strong community relationships.

A special thank you to Nicole Karlis, Program Supervisor at Buffalo Prenatal, for inviting us to be part of this incredible event. Nicole previously served as a paramedic with AMR from 2006 - 2020, and it was so great to reconnect and witness the continued impact she’s making in our community for families in need.

Thank you to Buffalo Prenatal for including us in such a fun and meaningful day. We loved meeting everyone who stopped by to see our ambulance!

Exciting to see one of our own receive national recognition 👏🏼

Congrats, Kari and thank you for all you do for EMS in our community!

Meet Kari Smistek. She is a graduate of our Earn While You Learn program who now supports AMR Western New York as a field training officer, paramedic in Buffalo, NY. Not only does Kari give back to her community through her work as a frontline first responder, but she also works as a tenured instructor, helping fellow EMTs and students obtain their industry certifications. Having become a true testament to the possibilities attainable through EMS, we proudly celebrate Kari’s journey and look forward to the continued impact she brings to GMR.

Full circle moments, like this, are what it’s all about!

Breona McCarter used to walk the halls of her charter school in Buffalo with big dreams about her future. Today, she walked those same halls, but this time representing AMR Western New York as our Community Engagement Specialist and attending the school's community-wide job fair.

Bre now plays a vital role in connecting AMR to the communities we serve. From organizing community events and outreach opportunities to making sure our employees stay engaged and connected beyond the ambulance, she helps build the relationships that make our mission stronger every day.

Today was a true full circle moment, showing students what’s possible when passion meets purpose!

We’re proud to have Bre representing AMR and inspiring the next generation right where her own journey began.

In August of 2019, Kari Smistek joined AMR Western New York after what she jokingly called a “midlife crisis”. But, it was really a calling to do more for her community. Looking for purpose, she applied to the Earn While You Learn Academy and it changed everything.

What started as a chance opportunity quickly turned into a passion. After completing the program, she advanced from EMT to Advanced EMT then Paramedic, and now she serves as a Field Training Officer. She even helps to teach the very Earn While You Learn program that started her journey.

EMS brings together a special kind of people who are strong, compassionate and resilient. The bonds formed are unlike anything else.

Kari says:
"EMS helps you find strength you never knew you had. It teaches you how to overcome challenges and puts life into perspective. And yes, the adrenaline rush is pretty great too!"

Setting the gold standard in EMS care ⭐🚑

AMR Western New York is proud to announce the successful renewal of our accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS), the gold standard in ambulance service quality.

This prestigious accreditation requires agencies to demonstrate excellence in patient care, clinical oversight, safety, operations and continuous quality improvement through a rigorous review process and on-site evaluation by national experts.

We are especially proud to share that AMR Western New York is the only CAAS-accredited ambulance provider in the region, placing our team among a select group of EMS agencies across the country and internationally to achieve this distinction.

This recognition reflects the incredible dedication of our EMTs, Paramedics, dispatchers, supervisors and support staff who serve our community every day with professionalism, compassion and clinical excellence.

This accreditation is more than a certification. It is a reflection of our promise to provide trusted, high-quality emergency medical care whenever our community needs us most.

There’s a moment after the call ends.
When the sirens quiet.
When the patient is safely in care.
When the adrenaline settles.

In that moment, there’s something powerful. Knowing you showed up when someone needed you most!

For our medic teams at AMR Western New York, it’s more than a job. It’s the privilege of helping someone on one of the hardest days of their life.

That feeling never gets old. 🚨🚑

Western New York, we need you ‼️

EMS has long been underfunded by Medicaid in New York, and rising costs continue to outpace inflation. Now, a proposed Medicaid crossover cut threatens to further destabilize ambulance services across the state, putting emergency response resources at risk.

The United New York Ambulance Network (UNYAN) has launched a grassroots advocacy effort urging our elected officials in Albany to reject this cut and it takes less than two minutes to make your voice heard!

Your support could make a meaningful difference in protecting EMS services.

Click below to complete the advocacy request. Please also consider forwarding it to your friends and family. The more voices our representatives hear, the stronger our message will be.

Thank you for your support 🚑🚨

Help NYS EMS and ambulance services retain vital funding that is threatened by a proposed cut to Medicad crossover payments in the Governor's FY2027 budget.

Excellence in EMS starts with humility and compassion, and Erin Benduzla embodies both.

Erin currently serves as a Paramedic and is already setting her sights on pursuing additional schooling in the medical field. Her commitment to growth reflects the very best of what EMS should be - always learning, always improving.

Erin shares this powerful reminder:
“It’s easy to think ‘you’ve got this’ after running a call smoothly just once, but complacency creeps in when you stop questioning yourself. Seek feedback, even when it’s hard, and don’t let ego get in the way of growth.”

Humility, accountability, and a drive to continually sharpen her skills elevates her patient care and continues to strengthen our entire team!

Thank you, Erin, for showing up every day for our patients, partners and the Western New York community. 🚑
