Welcome to the Quarter Deck…

Typically, the quarterdeck serves as the part of the upper deck of a ship reserved for officers. Navy, this area is reserved for official ceremonies and as the station of the officer of the deck in port. Throughout history, the quarterdeck has been used to carry out exercise and – sometimes – punishments. At Quarter Deck Athletics, home of CrossFit QDA, we are grateful for the opportunities afforded to us and the sacrifices that have been made to allow us the freedoms we so enjoy. With multiple family members serving in various branches of the armed forces, a military lifestyle is something with which we grew up and has become an integral part of our lives. We honor fallen soldiers regularly through special “hero workouts,” and we will be working closely with veterans as a part of our community outreach and charitable work. It is not something we take lightly. It comes with the utmost respect, sincerity, and appreciation. Here at QDA, everyone is equal. We are all equally important and equally treated with equal expectations. And that expectation is simple: Effort. That is it. Success is a simple formula: Your best effort, consistently performed, over many days. Progress happens every single day but in small amounts. It is the aggregation of marginal gains, day in and day out. QDA is the only gym in downtown Buffalo, offering CrossFit, chiropractic, and nutrition services for all ages and abilities, and, as such, we are able to measure effort like no other fitness facility or gym. Our fitness and medical backgrounds allow us to offer safe, effective, and intense workouts that can be scaled for all skill levels. As such, we have worked with all populations – from children to retirees, professional athletes to cancer patients, as well as those with joint replacements, and hip and shoulder problems. We have seen it all. Whether you want to be able to perform everyday movements pain-free, such as walking or getting out of a chair, or you’d like to lose weight and/or build muscle, we can tailor every workout to fit your needs to keep you healthy and progressing towards your goals. No one knows what it takes to be you except you.

No one knows everything you have gone through to get to right now.

You will never be fully understood.

You will never be fully and completely known.

We are passing stars on each other’s interstellar journeys.

Some will stay near longer than others…

Some will burn brighter in your presence.

Some will fade around you.

Some will become a part of you.

Some will crash into you others will slingshot you across the galaxy.

I have encountered many stars so far on my journey.

I’m grateful for every single one of them because I am proud of who I am as a person, what I get to do, and how I am help those around me.

If you are reading this it’s because we are connected and I want you to understand with my entire being, I appreciate you.

Your presence, no matter how long or short has guided me to this moment, writing this on Christmas evening.

You might think I’m full of s**t, that’s your choice. Thank you, all of you.

Because Lauren is rolling in from The Practice Buffalo — where she’s a powerhouse teacher known for making strong, mindful movement feel fun, challenging, and weirdly doable — and she’s about to turn QDA upside-down. Literally.

Oh, and did we mention she trains HERE too?
Yeah. She lifts with us, sweats with us, and now she’s going to teach you how to kick up without kicking a hole in the wall. A true community service.

🚨 CLEAN & JERK MONTH AT QDA 🚨
Apparently we’ve been jerking so much this week that the gym is officially a disaster. Chalk everywhere. Barbells abandoned. Pride slightly wounded.

So now it’s time to clean… and not the “grab a mop” kind.
The heavy kind. The technical kind. The “you better commit or you’re getting stapled to the floor” kind. 😈💪

Shoutout to everyone throwing down and leveling up—split jerks, power jerks, questionable jerks… we’ve seen it all.
And we love it.

Let’s finish the week strong and clean up this place one rep at a time. ⚓️🔥

🎄 DECEMBER AT QUARTER DECK = CLEAN & JERK OR DIE TRYIN’ 🎄

Apparently we’ve all decided to end 2025 strong instead of coasting into the holidays like sleepy house cats — so buckle up, because this month we’re diving headfirst into the Clean & Jerk.

All December we’re sharpening technique, building power, and reminding everyone that yes, you can throw weight overhead without questioning your life choices (…most of the time).

I have said this many times but I think it’s really important.

I am grateful that I get to pursue my passion.

I am grateful that you choose to have a seat on part of your journey.

I am grateful that we get to see the progress you all make.

I am grateful for the trust and support that all of you give us.

Like this empty space in the picture, the gym is nothing without all of you.

The space is cool, the equipment is cool, however it is nothing without all of you.

Hey There 👋🏼 Allow me to introduce myself

I’m a CrossFit Coach
Olympic weightlifting coach
Nutritionist
Personal trainer

I’ve got a bachelors in exercise science & a masters in clinical nutrition.

I’ve been in the health & fitness space for almost 13 years.

I have my CF L2 and have been coaching for 9 years at quarter deck athletics.

I own Buff City Barbell which is (officially) a little over 1 years old, but I’ve been coaching weightlifting for over 5 years.

Became a nutrition coach in 2018 and have been helping all types of people improve their nutrition ever since.

I love what I do and I love helping people. You’ll see me get just as excited for my athletes to achieve their goals as I do my own. I’ll hold you accountable while cheering you on the whole time.

I meet people where they’re at. No matter your fitness background we will start there and build up!

I’ve been doing weightlifting meets and CrossFit competitions since 2017! I’m doing the same CrossFit workouts you’re doing at QDA and I follow my coaches programming for weightlifting, because even coaches need coaches. Other cool events I’ve done include a bunch of 5-8k runs, a half marathon, a 12-hour GoRuck event and a 24- hour GoRuck event.

I’m here to guide, support, sometimes challenge and always encourage you! Whether you’re looking to build muscle, lose fat, learn the oly lifts, compete in some capacity or just overall feel better, I’ve got you!
