Congrats to Mrs. Stewart!
The SWRTA Middle School Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Megan Stewart!!
Mrs. Megan Stewart is the nominee for 6-8 Educator of the Year from Dallas County R-1. Megan is a special educator teacher in her 8th year at Buffalo Prairie Middle School. Though she began her career in the regular education classroom, she joined the special education department to provide stability to the department and for the students, and to create a positive relationship between regular and special education.
Megan is very active in leadership within the school district. Along with being a member of MSTA and CTA, she has been the Special Education representative on the Lead Team for two years. She also currently serves on the Long Range Planning Committee, which creates a vision and plan for the district’s next 10 years. She also serves as a mentor to new teachers in the district. She works diligently with the counselors to create schedules and testing schedules to allow for inclusion. Her students have shown increased academic growth and confidence through her efforts. Her teaching heart is not limited to the school classroom, as she and her husband teach a Sunday School class for the “college and career” age, where they provide guidance and support to kids graduating from high school and entering adulthood. She is also the teacher and curriculum director for the Children’s ministry.
Mrs. Stewart receives high praise from her colleagues and administrators, as she goes above and beyond to connect the special education and regular education communities. The Director of Special Services stated, “Megan is a leader for her building and department. She advocates for the best learning environment for her students and is always seeking professional growth to improve her instruction. Megan's impact is felt by many, as she strives to educate and encourage students and coworkers.” Those sentiments were also shared by the building principal who added, “Megan Stewart is dedicated and compassionate. She works tirelessly to serve her students, always leading with kindness, patience, and high expectations. Megan collaborates closely with teachers through co-teaching and also provides instruction in resource English classes, ensuring students receive the support they need to be successful. In addition to her work in special education, Megan brings valuable perspective from her experience in the regular education setting. This background makes her an incredible resource for our staff, as her insight and guidance are instrumental when teams are working with some of our most high-need students. Her advice and collaboration play a vital role in student growth and success.”
Megan has been a true asset to the Special Education department, and to Dallas County R-1. We are blessed to have her on our staff, and look forward to the amazing career she has ahead of her. The Buffalo CTA proudly nominates her for the SWRTA 6-8 Educator of the Year award.
Congrats, Megan!
