Our 2025 BioXFEL Summer Internship has officially come to a close! Interns from UB-HWI and across the country spent the summer diving into structural biology, gaining research experience, building professional skills, and forming lasting connections.

Last week, they showcased their work through final presentations and poster sessions, impressing mentors, peers, and guests with their scientific insights and communication skills.

We’re so proud of all they’ve accomplished — and excited to see what they’ll do next. Huge thanks to our interns, mentors, and partners for making this summer unforgettable!

Special thanks to Dr. Letitia Thomas and the SURP program for welcoming our interns into their professional development events and poster day — we’re grateful for the opportunity!

High school students in UB-HWI's Skill Set Building Through Structural Biology summer program took their learning beyond the classroom with two exciting field trips this week:

At the Buffalo Museum of Science, they explored how to communicate complex research to the public and even learned what goes into designing a scientific exhibit.

At the Jacobs Institute, students got a close-up look at biomedical engineering in action — from life-saving medical devices to innovation at the intersection of technology and healthcare.

These real-world experiences helped students see how their scientific skills connect to careers, communities, and the future of medicine.
