What are some things you can do to lower your risk?
• aim for 150 minutes of aerobic activity weekly and 2 days of strength training
• eating a plant-forward diet and eliminating red meat. Prioritize vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats
• stop smoking
• reduce stress
• aim for 7-9 hours of sleep
• understand your family history and talk to your doctor about your personal risk

Sarcopenia is age-related skeletal muscle loss. It's can start as early as in your 30s and significantly accelerates in your 60s.

This results in loss of strength and balance, increases the risk of frailty and falls, and has metabolic impacts as well including promoting insulin resistance, reduced energy expenditure, and increased fat deposition.

Many factors can contribute to sarcopenia including natural aging, lack of physical activity, and hormonal changes

What can you do to prevent or slow the rate of sarcopenia?

•resistance training 2-3x weekly
•adequte protein intake (1-1.5 g/kg/day)

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is typically peaks in January and February, especially here in where we get very little sunlight for many months.

Science-backed lifestyle strategies—light therapy, exercise, sleep, nutrition, and connection- can make a real difference.

Here's some strategies to try:
•20-30 mins every morning of sunlight or use of a light box
•regular physical activity to keep endorphins up
•maintaining a consistent sleep-wake to regulate melatonin levels
•nutrient dense foods with adequate intake of vitamin D. It can be beneficial to check vitamin D levels and supplement appropriately.
•maintaining social connection

There are medication options available as well to treat SAD if needed.
