Late talker at home? You’re not alone, and there are simple, supportive ways to help build communication skills every day 💬
One small shift that can make a big impact is being mindful of screen time. Screens don’t pause for your child to respond, which means fewer chances to practice using words, gestures, and turn-taking.
Here are a few tips to support your late talker:
✨ Create more “back-and-forth” moments – Talk during play, meals, and routines, and pause to give your child a chance to respond (even with sounds or gestures!)
✨ Swap some screen time for interaction – Even 10–15 minutes of focused play or reading together can go a long way
✨ Make more comments, ask fewer questions – Instead of quizzing (“What’s that?”), try modeling language (“That’s a big truck!”) to reduce pressure and encourage imitation
✨ Follow your child’s lead – Talk about what they are interested in to keep them engaged
✨ Keep it simple – Use short, clear phrases they can start to imitate
No pressure, no perfection—just small, meaningful moments that help your child find their voice ❤️
