This week has been filled with so many special moments — giggles during play, proud smiles after new words, and quiet victories that make my heart so full. 💕

Every session reminds me that speech therapy is about so much more than practicing sounds or building language. It’s about connection. It’s about trust, relationships, and those shared moments of joy when progress clicks. It’s about meeting each child and family right where they are and walking alongside them on their journey.

🕵️‍♀️ Who’s That Costume? 👻

Get ready for a spooky fun guessing game!

🎭 Take turns describing a costume using clues instead of naming it:

💬 “My costume flies and wears a cape!”
💬 “Mine has sparkles and wings!”
💬 “I’m spooky and wear a pointy hat!”

This simple game helps build:
🗣️ Describing skills
🧠 Listening comprehension
💬 WH- question understanding

💡 Try it at home or while you’re trick or treating!
🎯 How many can you describe and guess?

🚨Did you know?🚨

Thumb sucking might be more than just a habit! 👇

Sometimes, it’s a clue that your child is struggling to breathe properly — especially through their nose.

👃 When nasal breathing is hard (from allergies, enlarged tonsils, or adenoids), kids may start mouth breathing.
👉 Sucking a thumb can actually help them create a better seal or move their tongue into a position that makes breathing easier.

😴 Children with sleep-disordered breathing (like snoring or restless sleep) might also use thumb sucking as a way to self-soothe when their sleep or oxygen levels are disrupted.

👅 The tongue plays a role too — when it’s not resting on the roof of the mouth, a child might use their thumb to “fill that space” and feel stable.

So before focusing only on breaking the habit, it’s worth asking why it started in the first place.
Sometimes, the thumb is just trying to help! ❤️

✨ Supporting nasal breathing, proper tongue posture, and airway health often makes the habit fade naturally.

If you’re noticing ongoing thumb sucking (especially beyond age 4–5), it might be time for an airway check with an ENT, pediatric dentist, or myofunctional therapist.

Communication Boards

Empowering Connections is devoted to creating opportunities for communication and connection between individuals with complex communication needs and non disabled individuals through the use of communication boards. Our communication boards are customized and designed for use in a variety of settings including, playgrounds (indoor and outdoor), waiting rooms, and other settings, to facilitate functional communication between all individuals. It is our dream that all individuals will be able to interact and engage in play with one another with the use of our boards. After all, “Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.”- Mr. Rogers.
