Thank you, Mammen Family Public Library, for inviting us to Baby Day! It was so much fun playing with the little ones, meeting new families, and answering speech and language questions.

My favorite comment of the day: “You have a pretty cool job—you get to play all day!” Yes… yes I do!! 😊

“Your help changed her life,” a parent told me.

That kind of moment stays with you.

It’s a reminder of the privilege it is to walk alongside families, to witness small steps become meaningful growth, and to be trusted in those in-between moments where progress is quietly happening.

Grateful for the connection, the joy in shared milestones, and the meaning found in being part of that journey. 💜

💙 World Autism Awareness Day 💙
Let’s celebrate differences, spread kindness, and build a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

Being different doesn’t mean less—it means having a unique way of experiencing the world that deserves love, respect, and understanding. Every mind is meaningful, every story matters, and every person brings something beautiful that the world needs.

Inclusion matters. Understanding matters. Acceptance matters.

Today has felt especially heavy, and words fall short in expressing the sadness we feel following the tragic events in our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the students, families, faculty, and administrators affected, as well as the first responders who acted quickly and continue to support the situation.

We are holding Hill Country College Prep High School and the Bulverde community in our hearts during this difficult time. In the days ahead, we remain hopeful as healing begins, and we continue to hold onto the light in the midst of darkness.

One of the most common things parents say is:

“My child just plays in speech therapy.”

But play is actually one of the most effective ways children learn language.

Through play we target:
• vocabulary
• requesting
• following directions
• conversation skills

The best therapy doesn’t always happen at a table.

Sometimes it looks like building, dinosaurs, sensory play… and a little bit of silliness too.

It might look simple, but every activity is intentional and goal-driven.

Because when kids are engaged and having fun, they’re much more likely to communicate and learn. 💬

Read Across America Week Day ✋🏻

📚 The best speech & language activity might already be on your bookshelf.

Reading together helps children develop:
✨ Vocabulary
✨ Listening skills
✨ Storytelling ability
✨ Conversation skills
✨ Confidence communicating

Books open the door to imagination, learning, and connection.

The best part?
Just 10–15 minutes of reading a day can make a powerful difference in a child’s language development.

📖 This week for Read Across America, we celebrated how books build communication skills that last a lifetime.

💬 Keep the momentum going!

Read Across America Week Day 4️⃣!

📖 Retelling stories strengthens language!

When children can describe the beginning, middle, and end, they’re building:
✨ Sequencing
✨ Narrative skills
✨ Comprehension
✨ Classroom readiness

Storytelling helps children organize their thoughts and communicate clearly — skills they’ll use every day in school and conversation.

💬 After reading, ask your child:
“What happened first?”

Then keep going:
➡️ What happened next?
➡️ How did the story end?

Small moments like this build BIG language skills.

👇 Tell me in the comments:
What book did your child retell today?

Communication Boards

Empowering Connections is devoted to creating opportunities for communication and connection between individuals with complex communication needs and non disabled individuals through the use of communication boards. Our communication boards are customized and designed for use in a variety of settings including, playgrounds (indoor and outdoor), waiting rooms, and other settings, to facilitate functional communication between all individuals. It is our dream that all individuals will be able to interact and engage in play with one another with the use of our boards. After all, “Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.”- Mr. Rogers.
