You’re failing as a mom if you ask for help.

I know how paralyzing a fear like that can be, because I’m a mom, too.

Us mothers are programmed to believe that we can and MUST be able to do it all, perfectly and with a smile on our faces.

So what would your partner, your family, your girlfriends think if they knew you were desperately seeking help?

Or worse, if you do get help, would you find out you’ve been doing it all wrong?!

Therapy is not always about correcting our mistakes and it’s never about placing blame. It can also be about providing an alternative perspective to get you out of your own head and into a more enlightened or insightful space.

Therapy (particularly group therapy) offers a sense of support, validation, and community that’s at your fingertips if only you take the first step to reach out.

I’m right here, ready and willing to provide that support.

Reach out to me today and see if my 1:1 or group therapy experiences is the right fit for you.

“It’s not about me.”

That’s probably one of your first thoughts as you process how you’ll handle your child’s ADHD-specific challenges.

But if we’re being fully transparent, honest, and mindful, you are absolutely a crucial part of the puzzle.

More specifically, navigating the emotional impact of your family’s unique needs is a highly personal- yet totally natural- part of the process.

I’d like to arm you with some tools to help you overcome some of these hurdles on the emotional journey.

1️⃣ First, the onslaught of treatment options and research overload can throw you into a state of paralysis, leaving you incapable of decision-making. Remember that everything can only happen one step at a time, so treat each decision accordingly: Break each choice down into a step-by-step approach, using written lists or talking it out as needed.

2️⃣ Secondly, the path of a parent of a child with unique circumstances can feel like a lonely one. It begins in the home and extends out to include your social circle. But remember that this feeling of isolation is perceived; opening up to your partner, family, community, and seeking professional guidance will all close that gap.

3️⃣ Last and most importantly, your child’s individual needs will impact your family dynamics as a whole. But your child’s ADHD does not need to become your household’s identity, and it doesn’t have to impact relationships within it in a negative way. Maintaining open dialogue and fostering a structured and supportive environment for everyone will keep those stress levels down.

I’ve talked in the past about the potentially harmful impact of using an ineffective parenting style for your child with ADHD.

But let’s talk about what can go RIGHT when your child’s needs are met with compassion, support, and approaches that align with their needs.

🙌 Using tactics like positive reinforcement and words of affirmation promote feelings of competence and confidence in your child, which support higher self-esteem overall. Your child will approach daily tasks feeling capable and self-assured, thanks to the positive influence of your words and actions.

📚 With the right tools for focus and dedication, your child will soar in their academic environment. This will keep them on-track, not only to keep up with their classmates, but excel and reach greater levels of success in higher education down the road!

🫂 School’s not the only place your child will thrive when provided with the proper tools; you’ll also see enhanced social skills on the playground and at home where your child will strengthen their relationships with peers and siblings.

🥰 And perhaps the most important of all, when you show up for your child with empathy, understanding, and awareness, the bond between you will grow stronger than ever.

If you’re eager to adjust or strengthen your ADHD-cognizant parenting approach, schedule a consult with me today!
