Hello May! We are kicking off the month by sharing the story behind our mission.

Introducing Tonia Whitley-Gray, MSN-Ed, FNP-C, the founder and healthcare provider at Destiny Total Healthcare in Burgaw, North Carolina. After years of serving as a travel nurse in states like California and Maryland, she has returned home to address the shortage of medical providers in our rural community. Her primary goal is to provide quality care and prevent chronic illnesses for underserved families.

This May, we are also focusing on:

🩺Mental Health Awareness: Supporting the emotional well-being of our local caregivers and youth.

🩺High Blood Pressure Awareness: Promoting preventative screenings for better heart health.

🩺Stroke Awareness: Educating our community on the signs of stroke and the importance of early prevention.

This Spring Break, Certified Medical Assistant students from Pender High School devoted their time to gaining hands-on clinical experience with our team and other fellow community clinical sites, choosing growth, service, and learning over a traditional break.

By opening our doors, we’re not just providing clinical hours—we’re helping shape confident, skilled, and compassionate future caregivers. Watching these students learn, serve, and engage reminds us why community partnerships and mentorship matter so much.

April is National Minority Health Month and coming up this week is Black Maternal Health Week. The statistics tell a story we can no longer ignore:

▪️3x Risk: Black women in the U.S. are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women.

▪️Preventable Deaths: Research shows that over 80% of maternal deaths in the U.S. are preventable.

▪️The Disparity Gap: These outcomes persist regardless of income or education level.

This is why we are "Sick & Tired." On Sunday, April 12, 2026, our founder, Tonia Gray, FNP, is taking the stage at the Sick & Tired Black Maternal Health Tour & Community Baby Shower in Warsaw, NC (2pm–6pm).
