We celebrated Valentines Day a day early this year. Barbara led the first songs on the piano, then we played Valentine Trivia. After a couple more songs we played Guess the Romantic Movie. We had Jim playing a bird whistle for the song “Yellow Bird” while Steve accompanied with the maraca. We ended toasting with mocktails to “Love and Friendship” and enjoying some snacks. Thanks to all who helped and participated!

It's been a while since we hosted a country breakfast here at BPP. By popular demand, staff welcomed the hungry breakfast seekers with a delicious morning meal. Judging by the smiles and easy conversations, it looks like everyone left happy—always the best sign of a good morning together.

BPP residents gathered to watch the Seahawks win the Super Bowl! With pizza and snacks, the first half passed without much action—you can see the concentration on everyone’s faces. But hooray for the second half! Well done, Hawks!

The first Wednesday of each month we celebrate the birthdays and anniversaries which occur in that month here at BPP.
Our resident Edla, makes lovely, themed (to the month) cupcakes which are presented to these special people. We just couldn’t resist a picture as she was color coordinated with her creations! Thank you, Edla!

Such a celebration! Not only are we welcoming the New Year of 2026, but we are also celebrating 30 years since Boulevard Park Place Active Retirement Community was established!
Not wanting to wait for the old year to officially ring out, we brought 2026 in a bit earlier. Jayne set up a complete hat-making table for exercising our creativity. Then followed our games and snacks and dances from our line dance team! We even enjoyed a paper “snowball” throwing contest and fight without the cold of snow! Thankful and grateful to have the blank pages of a brand-new year to write upon, we are wishing health and peace to all!

It seems like we have found some new traditions to continue here at BPP! The Christmas Caroling led by the BPP Singers on Dec. 22nd was very well attended with residents participating on each floor. It brought a warm holiday spirit!
Christmas breakfast was another big hit! It was lovely to see the residents chatting at the tables as they waited for the delicious breakfast that Joye and Jay had prepared. When Ron walked in wearing his special holiday outfit, well, that was a showstopper for sure!!

It’s Christmas time at Boulevard Park Place! We have a full house enjoying the delicious meal prepared by John and his team from All Catering. It’s such a warm, community experience to share this time together. After days of continual rain, we finally had a bit of winter sun! Thank you, Ron, once again, for sponsoring this event!

The $5,500 check from our BPP Bazaar has been delivered to the Tukwila Pantry. They serve approximately 2,000 families each month on-site and deliver food to an additional 800 families. Our donation will help purchase meat, eggs, and milk—items that are typically not donated to the food bank. Thank you for your generous support of our annual BPP Bazaar!

"My name's Raymond. I'm 73. I work the parking lot at St. Joseph's Hospital. Minimum wage, orange vest, a whistle I barely use. Most people don't even look at me. I'm just the old man waving cars into spaces.
But I see everything.

Like the black sedan that circled the lot every morning at 6 a.m. for three weeks. Young man driving, grandmother in the passenger seat. Chemotherapy, I figured. He'd drop her at the entrance, then spend 20 minutes hunting for parking, missing her appointments.

One morning, I stopped him. "What time tomorrow?"
"6:15," he said, confused.
"Space A-7 will be empty. I'll save it."
He blinked. "You... you can do that?"
"I can now," I said.

Next morning, I stood in A-7, holding my ground as cars circled angrily. When his sedan pulled up, I moved. He rolled down his window, speechless. "Why?"
"Because she needs you in there with her," I said. "Not out here stressing."
He cried. Right there in the parking lot.

Word spread quietly. A father with a sick baby asked if I could help. A woman visiting her dying husband. I started arriving at 5 a.m., notebook in hand, tracking who needed what. Saved spots became sacred. People stopped honking. They waited. Because they knew someone else was fighting something bigger than traffic.
But here's what changed everything, A businessman in a Mercedes screamed at me one morning. "I'm not sick! I need that spot for a meeting!"

"Then walk," I said calmly. "That space is for someone whose hands are shaking too hard to grip a steering wheel."

He sped off, furious. But a woman behind him got out of her car and hugged me. "My son has leukemia," she sobbed. "Thank you for seeing us."

The hospital tried to stop me. "Liability issues," they said. But then families started writing letters. Dozens. "Raymond made the worst days bearable." "He gave us one less thing to break over."

Last month, they made it official. "Reserved Parking for Families in Crisis." Ten spots, marked with blue signs. And they asked me to manage it.

But the best part? A man I'd helped two years ago, his mother survived, came back. He's a carpenter. Built a small wooden box, mounted it by the reserved spaces. Inside? Prayer cards, tissues, breath mints, and a note,

"Take what you need. You're not alone. -Raymond & Friends"
People leave things now. Granola bars. Phone chargers. Yesterday, someone left a hand-knitted blanket.
I'm 73. I direct traffic in a hospital parking lot. But I've learned this: Healing doesn't just happen in operating rooms. Sometimes it starts in a parking space. When someone says, "I see your crisis. Let me carry this one small piece."

So pay attention. At the grocery checkout, the coffee line, wherever you are. Someone's drowning in the little things while fighting the big ones.

Hold a door. Save a spot. Carry the weight no one else sees.
It's not glamorous. But it's everything."
Let this story reach more hearts....

We have so, so much to be thankful for! We here at BPP celebrate with a catered meal about a week before the actual date of the holiday. Look at this room full of residents! We even had some sunshine! John and his team from All Catering had prepared a delicious turkey dinner and our staff was kept busy serving the residents. Don’t forget the pumpkin pie! Emmy Purainer furnished lovely background music throughout. May we be the first to wish you “A Happy Thanksgiving!”

We had such beautiful weather for our yearly Fall Bazaar! All nine delicious homemade soups were lined up for hungry shoppers with cornbread and cookies galore; did I forget to mention Ron’s famous Chili? (with what ingredients??) The strikingly beautiful quilts were raffled and won by happy residents Nancy and Lynda. All the contributions that came in will be donated to the Tukwila Food Bank this year, and it looks to be a hefty one! Though months of work and planning go into this resident-run event, the staff plays a vital role with the setting up and taking down. Thanks to all who made this event such a success!
