One of my favorite prejuvenation or post-rejuvenation maintenance lasers is the Clear & Brilliant. This fractional nonablative laser uses gentle energy to boost collagen, tighten pores, improve tone & texture, and reduce pigmentation. It’s safe for darker skin tones. At low energy it has minimal down time, at boosted energy it has a day or two of pink and a few days of sandpapery texture as the skin renews itself. I tell my patients to apply a pea sized amount of tretinoin to fully dry (not damp!) skin, and use extra moisturizer because retinoids decrease oil production. Sometimes sensitive skin needs extra help tolerating tretinoin or other retinoids, so here’s my “sandwich” technique featuring our new PAD skincare products.

“You’re clear”… the words my Mohs patients wait to hear. I’ve looked under the microscope and your pathology is clear- all the tumor has been removed. We do multiple Mohs cases in a day, so the histotechs that prepare the slides for me to read will work until we clear all the tumors. The moment when everyone clears means we’ve successfully treated another day’s worth of cancers!

Even a dermatologist can overdo it with skin care… I tried some new exfoliating peel pads and it didn’t play well with my retinoid, so my skin got dry, tight and itchy- and super pink. I gave myself a little skin detox today with a soothing Korean Exomide mask. Calming ingredients included centennella asiatica, milk exosomes, camellia sinensis, and Irish moss. Followed that with our Lipid Lux cream and my traumatized skin barrier was feeling like herself again!

A couple of procedures canceled for today and tomorrow left us all wondering what’s up? Nobody wanted to come in off the wait list either. The next two weeks are booked solid so what’s going on? Finally the lightbulb went off… maybe people planning big game festivities are worried about down time?

No worries, it left us time for planning our own party on Monday, and for filming this silly video! I do have a couple of openings tomorrow afternoon if you’ve been meaning to get in!

World Cancer Day is today, a day to raise awareness of the global cancer epidemic, encourage prevention, and mobilize to action. The theme for 2025-2027, “United by Unique” places people at the center of care.

While there are over 5 million new diagnoses of skin cancer each year in the US alone, each patient is unique. That’s why a people-centred approach to cancer care that fully integrates each individual’s unique needs, with compassion and empathy, leads to the best health outcomes.

Along with patient centered care, I have advocated for precision tools to diagnose and treat skin cancer. My research with has added molecular prognosis to pathological staging, enabling patients and physicians to make difficult decisions about treatment a little easier.

If you’re looking to make a difference through financial support, please look at , the International Transplant Skin Cancer Society. This grassroots organization brings physicians together to advance education, prevention and treatment for the devastating cancers that organ transplant and other immunosuppressed patients get when their own immune systems can’t fight off damaged cells. It’s a small organization so a little contribution goes a long way.
