Prugh Funeral Service

Prugh Funeral Service We pride ourselves on being able to offer the level of attention and care each family deserves. Than

With two locations, the families we serve have the privilege of selecting either our new, state-of-the-art facility with unlimited parking, community room and on-site crematory on Division Street or our classic, beloved downtown facility nestled between churches. Our location at 3940 Division Street offers a parking lot large enough to accommodate those in attendance, a community room for luncheons, a chapel that can comfortably seat 400, and all the little details that make your funeral home comfortable and accessible. Our crematory is the area’s only on-site crematory and is operated by licensed funeral directors. With the facility located on the premises, it allows us to do everything possible to maintain complete control of the cremation service and process. Our location at 317 North 4th Street in beautiful downtown Burlington, has a long tradition of funeral service. Established in 1852, by Isaac Prugh, it is the oldest family owned and operated funeral service in Iowa. It is now owned and operated by the 6th generation of the Prugh family. Its beautiful chapel with stained glass windows and pipe organ is a lovely place for a service.

Shay Bradley's dying wish was that his family and friends would be able to laugh at his funeral. So he set up one final prank by recording himself knocking and saying "Hello, hello...let me out!" to be played from a speaker on the ground at his graveside. The video from his service has been viewed over 136,000 times. Shay's daughter, Andrea, said "My dad wanted us to leave the cemetery laughing, and to celebrate his life... He would love to know how many people he made laugh! He was an amazing character." Read the full story below:

Shay Bradley's dying wish was to have a message played at his funeral from beyond the grave.

"Death and our own mortality are topics people tend to avoid for many reasons. For most, it’s simply uncomfortable...However, pondering death and dying is not only good for your overall well-being, it also fosters important conversations with your loved ones. In the same way we often take time for reflection at the end of the year — recalling highlights, challenges and lessons — setting aside time during our sunset years to look back on our lives and share our thoughts gives those you love a more meaningful and complete understanding of you both before and after your death."

Beyond the questions to ask when planning a funeral, it’s important to ask your loved ones about the legacy they want to leave and how they want to be remembered.
