Random surprises from the most unexpected people are often the most wonderful gifts in life!!
I have known this kind, down-to-earth colleague for as long as I have been at Wi******er Hospital. I have seen him chatting warmly and friendly with the nurses and other staff in Labor & Delivery. But most of my own interactions with him have been simple hallway check-ins — friendly waves, wellness greetings, and his usual “How are you, doc?” as I walk by. I would turn around and see him sitting in the lobby or in the middle of his housekeeping work or grabbing a quick coffee or snack from the café.
We always exchange the usual pleasantries — mostly him asking how I’m doing, how my family is, and wishing me a good day at work.
Last night, during the 17th hour of a 24-hour shift — exhausted and in the middle of admitting yet another patient — he quietly walked up, placed this beautiful basket beside me, and said, “Doc, this is for you!” Then he simply smiled and walked away.
It was an unexpected kindness at the exact moment when I needed it most.
His kindness made the rest of the night feel lighter. I’m forever grateful for the warmth and generosity he brought to kickstart the holiday season — a gentle reminder to keep spreading kindness forward!!!
Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season!!
