This is the clinical profile of knowing something is seriously wrong, yet being convinced that knowing something is wrong and qualifying for help are two entirely different things. Of being sure that you fall firmly into the first category and not the second. This is the particular cruelty of atypical anorexia.

If you or someone you know is struggling with AAN, the Kahm Center can help. We are the only in-person higher level of care treatment in the state of Vermont, currently treating individuals of all genders, ages 16+.

Reach out today with questions or to schedule an intake assessment.

Did you know that you can have anorexia, even in a larger body? Learn more about atypical anorexia nervosa (AAN).

One large study found striking results among early adolescents. Nearly 52 percent of girls ages 13 to 14 who had a social media account reported disordered eating behaviors, such as skipping meals, restrictive eating, or compulsive exercise. Alarmingly, 45 percent of boys in the same age group reported similar patterns.

These findings challenge the outdated belief that eating disorders primarily affect girls and women. Instead, they highlight how appearance-focused social media environments can influence eating behaviors across genders, particularly during critical stages of identity development.

t’s no longer surprising to hear that social media use is linked to body image concerns and eating disorders. Let’s look at what the research tells us.

The drive that makes someone exceptional at sport and the psychological conditions that sustain an eating disorder overlap in ways that sport culture has not historically examined honestly. Screening for eating disorders is not standard practice in most athletic programs, and the professionals closest to athletes often lack the training to recognize the difference between disordered eating and dedicated athletic preparation.

Eating disorders affect athletes at every level of competition, at rates that exceed the general population, and they are treatable. Learn more.
