Youth Engaged Serving Seniors – Summer Service Opportunity!

Looking for a meaningful way for your teen to give back this summer while building their college application and résumé? The Twin Lakes Community Summer Service Program offers students ages 13–17 the opportunity to grow through service — developing caring relationships with older adults while providing extra nurturing and interaction for residents across all levels of care.

Program Dates: June 16 – August 6
Commitment: Three days a week

This is more than volunteer hours — it’s a chance for youth to build compassion, confidence, and lifelong memories. Applications are due Tuesday, March 31 by 4:30 PM. For more information or to have an application emailed to you, please contact
Jennifer Le at 336-585-2351 or jle@twinlakescomm.org

We look forward to welcoming a new group of young leaders to serve, learn, and connect this summer at Twin Lakes Community!

There’s something special about seeing nature up close right here at home.

One of our talented residents captured these incredible photos of three magnificent birds of prey spotted right here on campus:

• A Cooper’s Hawk photographed from the observation deck in Harris Park
• A Red-tailed Hawk seen near the Harris Park pavilion
• A Red-shouldered Hawk soaring past Deacon Point, captured from a 5th-floor balcony

From peaceful park views to breathtaking flyovers, these moments are a beautiful reminder of the wildlife that surrounds us every day. Thank you to our resident photographer for sharing these stunning glimpses of nature in action!

Take a look at these amazing shots below.

Today, our residents enjoyed a wonderful concert by the Triangle Tuba Quartet (TTQ) — a truly unique and talented ensemble. Founded in 1998 after its members heard their first tuba quartet at the U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Conference, TTQ was created out of a shared passion for this rich and often surprising sound.

Consisting of two euphoniums and two tubas, the quartet delivered a full, resonant sound that really has to be experienced in person to be appreciated. Their program delighted our audience with a wide range of musical styles, from classical works by Bach, Mozart, and Haydn to American favorites, marches, and jazz selections.

Our residents were thoroughly engaged and warmly welcomed the group with enthusiastic applause. We’re grateful to the Triangle Tuba Quartet for sharing their music and making today such an enjoyable experience for our community.

Our residents recently gathered for the January meeting of Together Women Rise, an organization dedicated to transforming lives and eradicating poverty among women and girls in the developing world. This month’s focus is “Equal Access: Advancing Gender Equity through Microfinance,” a powerful project sponsored by the Adelante Foundation in Honduras. Adelante’s mission is to empower enterprising women with the least opportunity by providing the tools and support needed to achieve economic self-sufficiency. We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn, connect, and support initiatives that create lasting change—one woman, one family, and one community at a time.

We were delighted to recently welcome Robert Buxton for a special performance enjoyed by our residents. An accomplished pianist and engaging presenter, Robert is known for bringing both insight and artistry to his programs. During his performance, he featured arrangements of violin repertoire for solo piano, with works by Franz Liszt, Ferruccio Busoni, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and others. His program offered a fascinating look at how these composers reimagined beloved violin works for the piano, blending musical history with expressive performance. It was a pleasure having Robert with us, and we look forward to welcoming him back for another enriching musical experience.

❄️Preparing for Winter Weather at Twin Lakes ❄️

As this weekend's anticipated winter weather approaches, our teams are already hard at work behind the scenes to ensure our residents remain safe, warm, and well cared for.

✔️ Grounds, maintenance, and dining services have stocked up on essential supplies
✔️ Generators have been fully topped off and tested
✔️ Grounds will soon begin pre-treating roads and will continue throughout the storm to keep entrances and pathways clear
✔️ Team members across all departments are ready to step in wherever needed to support resident safety and comfort
✔️ Complimentary overnight accommodations are available for staff
✔️ Complimentary on-site childcare is provided so staff can remain focused on resident care

These preparations allow our dedicated team members to remain on campus and fully supported, ensuring continuity of care throughout the storm. We want residents and families to feel confident knowing that they are in good hands.

For everyone’s safety, we encourage loved ones to postpone visits during the worst of the weather. Thank you to our staff for their extraordinary commitment and to our families for your understanding and trust.

Today, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through service.

In the spirit of his words—“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve”—our residents and staff came together to give back through meaningful service projects. These moments reflect the heart of our community: compassion, generosity, and a shared commitment to caring for others.

We’re proud to celebrate this day not only in remembrance, but in action—continuing the work of building stronger, more connected communities.
