Next up was Johnny’s 100th birthday! She doesn’t look or act a day over 75. She swears there is no secret to 100,but we keep admiring her trying to figure out the secret.

Today, I am grateful for dirty floors. Yes, really. Dirty floors, crooked books, disheveled magnatiles... I am grateful for it all.
See, dirty floors mean the door opened and there were enough feet in here that it got dirty. Crooked books mean there were people picking up books, reading them, maybe even finding their next favorite novel or the first story they'll ever read to their baby or the book that starts their lifelong love of reading. Disheveled magnatiles mean moms/dads/grandparents/aunts/uncles brought their little ones in here, and they had a safe activity to do while the adults browsed. I love fluffing the beanbags and straightening the chairs because I know that I've given someone a place to sit, a place to rest for a moment, a place to share their own stories or enjoy a new one.
This bookstore has been a dream of mine for so long, y'all. There were endless conversations that started with, "wouldn't it be amazing if..." and "maybe someday...". And now it's really here. Every day, I get to unlock the door to MY bookstore. My dream. I've made new friends, caught up with old ones, laughed and cried with our customers, given and received countless hugs, high-fives, and handshakes. Today, I get to mop the floors, straighten the shelves, and stack magnatiles. And I am grateful.

After the floods, Birdie’s Nest became my way of getting to bring home a few Pafford Place residents who were displaced and needed our familiar faces. We now have 2 open beds.
