Discovery Place

Discovery Place Discovery Place is a 12 Step recovery retreat for men suffering from alcoholism and drug addiction

Located on 17 rolling acres just west of Nashville, Tennessee, Discovery Place opened its doors in June, 1997 as a recovery retreat for men. Based on the program outlined in Alcoholics Anonymous, Discovery Place navigates guests through a proven program of action-oriented recovery in daily workshops, twelve-step meetings and personal service commitments. Over the last 15 years Discovery Place has helped over 2100 men and their families through 30, 60 and 90 day residential recovery programs complimented by an array of family support and continuing care. Discovery Place also hosts public outreach and education programs which reach more than 5,000 participants in Middle Tennessee each year.

In this video, Chef Craig shares how our partnership with Second Harvest is making a real impact on the men at Discovery Place. He talks about how the ingredients we receive help the Recovery Kitchen serve meals that are not only nutritious but meaningful to the guys who are working hard to rebuild their lives.

We also want to thank our interviewer for helping highlight this important part of the Discovery Place experience. And to everyone who donated on Giving Tuesday, thank you. Your support goes directly to our scholarship fund and helps us continue offering meals, care, and community to the men who need it most.

We are grateful for every single person who helps make this place what it is.

As we make our way December we are reflecting on Step 12 and the gift it brings. After finding a new way of life through the steps we carry this message to others. We show up for the next man, we offer what was freely given to us, and we practice these principles in all areas of our lives.

Step 12 reminds us that real change does not stop with personal recovery. It grows when we serve, when we give our experience away, and when we walk with others on their journey.

Here is to a month of service, gratitude, and continuing the chain of hope that has helped so many men find a new beginning.

It is Giving Tuesday and we are filled with gratitude.

Every day we see men arrive at Discovery Place searching for hope. We also see those same men leave with a new way of life, and it happens because someone cared enough to make their recovery possible.

Your generosity creates second chances. It provides a safe place to heal, a community that understands, and guidance that leads to real transformation. Many of the men who came through our doors are now helping others find the same path. That ripple effect is the heart of Giving Tuesday.

If you are able, please consider supporting a man who needs help today. Your gift can put hope within reach for someone who cannot find it on their own.

Thank you for believing in the work we do, and for believing in the men we serve.

Today’s throwback takes us back to 2022 when RobbieClause was hard at work decorating the Christmas tree and Joe was doing what he does best which is offering high quality supervision from a safe distance.

Some things never change. Robbie is still making the place look great and Joe is still keeping morale high. Scenes like this remind us how much laughter and personality fill the halls of Discovery Place each holiday season.

📣 Tonight’s Friends and Family Night Speaker 📣

We are excited to have Ben J. back with us tonight for his rescheduled Friends and Family Night event.

Ben’s story is one of loss, surrender, hard work, and spiritual growth. He once had everything he wanted in life and watched it all fall apart. He received the gift of recovery at Discovery Place, turned away from it, burned his life down while sober, and eventually reached a point of true surrender.

Over the last two years he has walked through a difficult divorce, worked a steady day job as a bug man, and fully committed himself to the 12 Steps. Today he sponsors other men, started a men’s meeting, and takes meetings into treatment and detox centers. His life may not look like what he expected, but it is healthier and more fulfilling than he ever imagined.

📍 Dinner: 5 to 6 PM
📍 Speaker: 7 PM

Come out tonight for fellowship and a powerful message of experience, strength, and hope from a man who lives recovery one day at a time.

Today we’re kicking off a week of gratitude here at Discovery Place, and we’re starting with some of our favorite coworkers.

We’re thankful for the Dogs of Discovery Place. Huck, Finn, Piper, Choco, and Milo bring a kind of calm and joy to campus that no one else can. Whether they’re greeting guests, supervising from the porch, or taking their well earned afternoon naps after a busy morning of “helping,” they make this place feel like home.

Here’s to the pups who keep spirits high and remind us every day that recovery can include moments of real comfort and warmth.

We’re excited to share that Jackson O. has been promoted to Admissions Coordinator at Discovery Place.

Earlier this year we talked about Jackson’s heart for helping others and the impact he’s already had on the men who walk through our doors. This promotion is a natural next step for someone who shows up with humility, empathy, and a genuine desire to guide families through one of the hardest moments of their lives.

Jackson’s own recovery has shaped him into the steady, dependable presence he is today, and we’re grateful to have him serving on the front lines of admissions.

Congratulations, Jackson. We’re proud of you and grateful you’re part of the Discovery Place family.

Our Volunteer of the Month for November is Jay P.

Jay has been faithfully coming out to Discovery Place to give back the gift that was freely given to him. After surrendering himself and working the 12 steps with a sponsor, Jay continues to show what real recovery in action looks like.

We’re proud of you, Jay. Thank you for your service and commitment to the Discovery Place community.
