Fear often gets lumped in as anxiety or overthinking, but in Chinese medicine they are VERY different and need to be seen separately. So how do we tell the difference?
Anxiety/ overthinking is like:
"I have so much to do and so little time"
"I can't stop thinking about this person and what they said to me"
"I am overwhelmed"
This type of busyness and overthinking depletes the Spleen Qi and causes digestive problems, low immunity, weight gain, poor sleep, and fatigue.
Fear is like:
"What if I never find a job?"
"I'm worried I'll run out of money"
"I'm worried about my kids future"
"This virus is scary"
"I'm worried about my parents"
"I'm terrified about what this president might do"
This type of fear depletes our Kidney Qi and causes symptoms like low back pain, knee pain, extreme fatigue, thyroid issues, plantar fasciitis, infertility, premature grey hair, poor teeth and bones, aging, and urinary issues. It can happen much more slowly and over time, and may become more difficult for you to see the connection between your emotions and your symptoms.
We will constantly be given opportunities to address our fears and clear them, and if we don't we can expect dis-ease to flare up.
Walnuts are a good and easy way to strengthen our Kidney Qi, as are various herbs and mushrooms depending on your specific symptoms.
