It brings key resources into one place so you can spend less time searching, second-guessing, or rebuilding materials from scratch, and more time focused on patient care and practice priorities. It also helps keep you connected to timely updates and the broader podiatric community in Illinois, which matters when guidance, policies, and expectations shift.

Outdated Medicare paperwork is delaying access to therapeutic shoes for patients who need them, and it is creating real delays in care.

We need YOUR help supporting the Diabetes Foot Health Access and Modernization Act, which would:
๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Modernize documentation requirements that cause delays in therapeutic shoe care
๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Align the Medicare therapeutic shoe benefit with existing fraud and abuse guardrails used for other physician services
๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Establish Medicaid coverage parity for podiatrists

Please take a moment to complete the eAdvocacy and urge your members of Congress to co-sponsor the bill at https://heyor.ca/URiOgd

Foot Health Awareness Month is not just public education. It is patient advocacy in action.

Every day, podiatrists see what happens when foot pain gets minimized, delayed, or treated like a nuisance instead of a health issue. That gap is where advocacy matters most: clearer pathways to care, better awareness of risk factors like diabetes and circulation, and stronger recognition of the role podiatric physicians and surgeons play in keeping people mobile and independent.

ILAPPS helps strengthen that work year-round by supporting the profession, elevating podiatric care across Illinois, and keeping members connected to the updates, education, and tools that make advocacy easier to deliver in real life.

To strengthen your impact and stay supported through every season, become an ILAPPS member:

Dr. Martin Yorath, DPM has spent more than three decades caring for patients in Chicago, backed by a strong focus on quality and prevention.

After earning his DPM from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in 1994, Dr. Yorath built a long-standing podiatry practice and maintains hospital affiliation with Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. His background also reflects a commitment to advancing care through Medicare quality reporting and health technology initiatives, including PQRS participation and EHR incentive program training, plus prevention work through the Million Heartsยฎ initiative.

ILAPPS is proud to spotlight physicians like Dr. Yorath, and to keep Illinois podiatrists connected to the people, programs, and advocacy that move the profession forward.

๐Ÿšฉ If something feels off in your feet, do not assume it will sort itself out.

April is Foot Health Awareness Month, and it is a good moment to get honest about how often foot issues get brushed off as โ€œnormal.โ€ Night pain, changes in sensation, and slow-healing spots are not just annoyances. They can be early signals that something needs attention, and addressing them sooner can help prevent bigger setbacks.

Feet carry your entire routine, so when something shifts, you often start compensating without realizing it. That can lead to knee, hip, or back strain, or turn a manageable issue into a long recovery.

If any of the signs sound familiar, connect with an ILAPPS podiatrist for an assessment and a clear plan: https://heyor.ca/uqduD8

When the weather improves, activity levels rise quickly. Weekend yard work, longer walks, and returning to running can all stress tissues that have been relatively inactive during winter.

The biggest risk factor is not the activity itself. It is how quickly you increase it.

If you notice heel pain, stiffness in the achilles, or soreness that lasts beyond a few days, early care can prevent a longer recovery period.

Start the season strong and connect with an ILAPPS podiatrist if discomfort appears:

A little luck is great, but good foot health is better. If youโ€™re on your feet all day, small habits add up, supportive shoes, moisture control, and not brushing off โ€œminorโ€ pain that keeps coming back.

Happy St. Patrickโ€™s Day! ๐Ÿ€
