Did you know your local health department works across multiple areas of public health to support the community?

From preventing illness to promoting safety and connecting people with resources, our work spans many parts of everyday life — often in ways people don’t immediately see.

These efforts include services that support individuals, families, and the broader environment we all share.

If you’re ever unsure where to find a resource or what service might apply to you, we’re here to help point you in the right direction.

Let us know below!
Which area of public health do you think people know the least about: clinical, community, or environmental?

If you don’t see it coming, you can’t avoid it. Don’t drive distracted.

Distractions take your eyes off the road and your focus off what matters most. Whether it’s a text, a call, or adjusting your playlist—it can wait.

Stay alert. Stay alive. Every trip, every time.

Fire safety isn’t always about what you see — it’s often about what you don’t notice first.

Quick trivia check 🔥

In a home fire, what is the leading cause of death?

A. Burns
B. Falling debris
C. Smoke inhalation
D. Heat exposure

Drop your guess below ⬇️

💡 Hint: It’s not the flames most people think of first…

Answer:
👉 C. Smoke inhalation
Smoke can spread quickly, reduce visibility, and become dangerous long before flames reach a person. That’s why early warning from smoke alarms and fast evacuation are so important.

When things feel a little overwhelming, small pauses can make a difference.

Mental health looks different for everyone, and there’s no one right way to reset. It might be movement, quiet, connection, or simply taking a moment to step back.

Can you spot the hidden risk?

Some home hazards are easy to see. Others aren’t.

Radon is a naturally occurring gas that can enter homes through cracks in the foundation and build up over time. You can’t see it or smell it, but it can impact your health.

The only way to know if radon is in your home is to test.

Comment your guess before swiping, or let us know if you’ve tested your home.

Need help getting started? Reach out to us.

LBPHD offers home radon test kits, $12 dollars picked up from our office or $15 to ship! Scan the QR code in our post to get your radon test.

They look real. They’re anything but. Fake pills are putting young people at risk in ways many don’t see coming.

In some cases, just half a pill can be enough to cause a deadly overdose.

With National Fentanyl Awareness Day on April 29th, we’re starting the conversation now-because waiting isn’t worth the risk. Parents, caregivers, educators: your voice matters more than you think.

Start the conversation. Ask the questions. Listen without judgement.

It could save a life.

Haz preguntas. Escucha sin juzgar.

Esta conversación puede salvar una vida.

That text can wait.
A message, a notification—even a quick reply—can take your eyes off the road when it matters most. And the consequences can be permanent.
No text is worth a life. Keep your eyes forward and your hands on the wheel.

How does your Earth Day stack up?

Small actions can make a big impact when it comes to protecting our environment and community health.

From reducing waste to spending time outdoors, every choice adds up.

Our local environmental public health program works year-round to help keep your home and community safe. From water questions to lead concerns and everyday things like air quality, mold, and radon.

Think you know the facts about opioids? Let’s test it.

Swipe through and see how many you get right. Some of these might surprise you.

Understanding the risks, recognizing that misuse isn’t always visible, and knowing tools like naloxone can make a real difference in our communities.
