We have two groups coming up after the holidays for adolescents!

Group counseling gives teens a safe, structured space to connect with peers, practice real-life social skills, and realize they’re not alone in what they’re facing.

It’s that time of year again where it is almost impossible to get in with a counselor as summer comes to an end.

We have added some new therapists who have many appointments available, including Michael Kroner, LPC. Mike has extensive experience working with adolescents 14 & up as well as adults, including couples. Mike sees clients mostly in office but has many openings for telehealth.

What's the difference between "regular" depression and "seasonal" depression?

I'll be talking with Monica Dunlap of Dunlap & Associates Counseling following the 8:30 news about the answer to that question, and what can be done to deal with it.

Also, the theory of localizing certain public jobs and a wild win vs. Winnipeg for the Pens.

In my consultations, one question that almost always gets asked is, “So what exactly does art therapy look like?”

And that is one question I cannot give an exact answer to. Why? Because art therapy looks different to each of my clients! When developing treatment plans, I consider my client’s needs, interests, abilities, and therapy goals and individually tailor directives to work for them.

One thing I do often tell people is that there are two major theories as to how art therapy can function in a therapeutic session. In very brief terms, and in a very simple doodle I outlined these below, there is Art as Therapy and Art Psychotherapy. Simply put, I say that art psychotherapy is like “digging a little bit deeper” into the content of the art. In both theories, the final product is often not at all important at or hardly as important as the process of creating. In both, they can also function independently or be used simultaneously.

So, what does art therapy look like for you? I can’t exactly say. But give me a call, let’s talk, and together we can develop a plan!

Licensed Professional Counselor

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Nationally Certified Counselor, member of the American Psychological Association, and also an adjunct professor of Psychology at the Community College of Allegheny County. I aim to provide a safe, comfortable, and nonjudgmental atmosphere where no issue is too big or too small for us to work through. Working in various settings, such as adolescent and adult drug and alcohol treatment centers, schools, juvenile offender programs, and practicing in-home family based therapy has allowed me to adapt to many different types of people facing various life stressors.

I have experience working with those who struggle with Addictions, ADHD, Adult Children of Alcoholics, Anger, Anxiety, Bipolar, Depression, Grief, Hoarding, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Parenting Issues, Relational Problems, Self-Injurious Behavior, Work conflicts, etc.

I am competent in working with individuals, couples, families, adolescents, and adults. I am especially skilled at working with those who are resistant or uncomfortable to the idea of therapy. I believe in a holistic view of counseling, meaning that mind, body, and spirit all play into our well-being.
